While playing games, the wifi connection is disconnected and it reconnects after a few minutes. When I go to the desktop and click on the wifi tab, it appears that the wifi connection is turned off.

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your WiFi disconnects while playing games and it seems like the WiFi is turned off when you check, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially solve the issue. Let’s go through a comprehensive approach to address this:
Update Network Drivers: Ensure that your network adapter drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, finding your network adapter, right-clicking it, and selecting “Update driver”. Alternatively, visit the manufacturer's website for the most recent drivers.
Power Management Settings: Sometimes, the power-saving settings can turn off the network adapter to save power. To check this, go back to Device Manager, right-click your network adapter, select "Properties", go to the "Power Management" tab, and make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
Router Firmware Update: Ensure your router's firmware is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to improve stability and performance. Check the manufacturer’s website for instructions on how to update your router's firmware.
Interference and Positioning: WiFi interference from other wireless devices can cause disconnections. Try changing your WiFi router’s channel or moving the router to a different location, ideally, a central location away from walls and metal objects. Also, avoid having devices that could cause interference, like microwaves and cordless phones, between your gaming device and the router.
WiFi Network Optimization: If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, try switching your connection to the 5 GHz band for a less crowded and potentially more stable connection. Keep in mind that 5 GHz has a shorter range than 2.4 GHz.
High Network Traffic: High network usage from other devices in your home can cause disconnections. Check if other devices are downloading large files or streaming in high definition while you are gaming and see if pausing those activities helps.
Check for Overheating: Ensure that your router and gaming device are not overheating. Overheating can cause devices to malfunction or temporarily shut down to cool off.
Reset Network Settings: On your computer, you can try resetting the network settings. This can often resolve odd issues by returning all network-related settings to their defaults. Search for "Network reset" in your Windows settings.
Contact ISP: If none of the above solutions work, there might be an issue with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Contact them to see if there are known issues or if they can offer a solution.
Hardware Issue: If the problem persists, there might be a hardware issue either with your router or your gaming device's network adapter. Try connecting to the internet using another device to determine if the issue is isolated to your gaming device. If other devices experience the same problem, the router might be at fault.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
