hp laptop 15-bs0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello:) I have gigabit broadband service but am only getting 200-300mbps down over wired ethernet connection to my laptop, compared to 700-900mbps down to a different laptop over wired connection (that other laptop, a Lenovo X1 Carbon with an Intel Core i5vPro has an Intel ethernet connection (3) I218LM ethernet adapter). I checked both devices back to back multiple times using the exact same ethernet connection.  I am wondering if my laptop network card/adapter will or will not support higher speeds.  Here is what I have:

laptop: hp laptop 15-bs0xx, intel core i3-7100u cpu @2.40ghz, 4.00gb ram, windows 10 home 64 bit

network adapters: Realtek PCIe GbE family controller #2; Realtek RTL8723DE 802.11b/g/n PCIe adapter

I know my wireless receiver in the laptop is not dual band and is only 2.4Ghz, so I know it will not achieve the speed that a dual band ac would at 5Ghz.  However, I want to know if should be getting faster speeds via a wired connection (plugging in ethernet cable from router/switch into laptop ethernet port).  I am not an IT expert so I have provided as much info as I could get below (even though I don't know what most of it means).

Here are my  network adapter settings for both the PCIe GbE controller and for the 802.11b/g/n PCIe adapter in the HP laptop:

What EXACTLY is your hp laptop 15-bs0xx  ? For example  HP Notebook - 15-bs031wm, its specs

      https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06309350

Probably your machine uses SAME Integrated 10/100/1000 GbE LAN chip. If Yes, it supports  1Gb line. Again, what is your machine ?

Regards.

Thank you Banhien.  I pulled the laptop info from the system info screen and that was what was listed. However, I finally found the original box it came in and it is listed as HP Laptop 15-bs051od.

Thanks again, and let me know if I can provide other info.

Yes. it has   Integrated 10/100/1000 GbE LAN.

Please try a CAT 6 cable and set auto negotiate for NIC, hope this helps.

Where do I set auto negotiate for NIC?  Is that a setting in the network adapter?  If so I have not found it.

I have ca5e wiring throughout my home, and used a cat 5e cable for the tests I mentioned previously, yielding 700-900mbps down on the Lenovo but 200 down on the HP.  I am unable to access the adapter settings on the Lenovo for comparison because it is my work machine and I do not have administrator access.

thanks!
