i want to connect the wireless keyboard 230 and mouse in a MSI laptop Sword 17 B14, but when i connect the wireless receiver in the USB port it can be recognized (no sound is heard). Keyboard and mouse 230 does not work. But in my HP omen win 10 laptop both work perfectly. Also, an other wireless Microsoft mouse i have, when i connect it to the MSI laptop (win 11) with its receiver in a USB port, it works perfectly. Why the MSI laptop with win 11 does not recognize the wireless keyboard 230 and mouse (neither the wireless receiver) ? Please tell what to do to connect the wireless keyboard 230 and mouse with the MSI laptop (win 11). Is there a driver?

Hi @sak8,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it can be when your wireless keyboard and mouse don't work on your MSI laptop, especially when you know they work perfectly on another device. Let’s troubleshoot this together to get them working.
- Have you tried connecting the wireless receiver to all USB ports on your MSI laptop?
- Did the keyboard and mouse ever work on this MSI laptop, or is this the first time you’re trying to connect them?
- Do you see any error messages or unknown devices listed in the Device Manager when the receiver is plugged in?
Let's try these steps.
Try All USB Ports:
- Connect the wireless receiver to different USB ports on the MSI laptop to rule out a faulty port.
- Ensure no USB hub or extender is in use, as it might limit power to the receiver.
Check Device Manager for Recognition Issues:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it.
- Look under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Human Interface Devices for any unknown devices or errors when you plug in the receiver.
- Right-click the device (if found) and choose Update Driver Software > Search Automatically for Drivers.
Install Generic USB Drivers:
- In Device Manager, find the USB Root Hub entries under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click each one, select Update Driver, and reboot the system after updating.
Test Receiver on Another Device:
- Plug the wireless receiver into a different USB port on another laptop or PC to confirm it works.
- If it’s unrecognized there too, the receiver might be faulty.
Check MSI BIOS and Windows Updates:
- Update the BIOS and chipset drivers for the MSI Sword 17 B14 from the MSI support website.
- Ensure Windows 11 is fully updated by going to Settings > Windows Update and checking for updates.
If the issue persists, consider visiting HP’s support page to check if the keyboard and mouse 230 require specific drivers or firmware updates for compatibility with Windows 11.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Msi sword 17 b14 (win 11) is a new laptop. it is the first try to install the wireless keyboard 230 and mouse. I tried all you refer but it is still unrecognisable. No error messages or unknown devices listed in the Device Manager when the receiver is plugged in. In Universal Serial Bus Controllers i have only one USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) that is is the last update.
In my HP Omen (win 10) the wireless Keybord works fine. Maby it needs some update for win11. But as far i known there is not a driver for this keyboard in HP support. If you have another advice to help or if you know something about updating the keyboard for win11, please respond.

Hello again. Please help me because the problem still exists. I bought the HP wireless keyboard 230 and mouse one year ago in Greece. I could not register it in HP last year because the site do not accept the serial number (propably because it is relatively cheap product). The wiresless keybord 230 and mouse works fine with my HP Omen laptop. And now i am trying to connect it to my new laptop MSI Sword 17 B14, and it is not working.
I did anyrthing you proposed:
- connecting the wireless receiver to all USB ports on your MSI laptop
- this is the first time i am trying to connect the wireless keyboard with my new laptop MSI Sword 17 B14
- i see no error messages or unknown devices listed in the Device Manager when the receiver is plugged in (no sound is heard to indicate a succesful connection when i plug the usb receiver in a usb port)
Try All USB Ports: DONE
Check Device Manager for Recognition Issues: CHECKED
- Look under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Human Interface Devices for any unknown devices or errors when you plug in the receiver: NONE
- Right-click the device (if found) and choose Update Driver Software > Search Automatically for Drivers: DONE.
In Human Interface Devices i have not any unkown devices. IS THERE A DRIVER FOR THE HP wireless KEYBOARD 230 WHICH MUST SHOW IN THIS AREA ?
Install Generic USB Drivers: DONE
- In Device Manager, find the USB Root Hub entries under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Right-click each one, select Update Driver, and reboot the system after updating: DONE. I also deleted all these drivers and boot again to install them again automatically.
Test Receiver on Another Device: TESTED in my HP omen laptop and works fine
Check MSI BIOS and Windows Updates: DONE
- Update the BIOS and chipset drivers for the MSI Sword 17 B14 from the MSI support website.
- Ensure Windows 11 is fully updated by going to Settings > Windows Update and checking for updates.
I note again that my old model wireless Microsoft mouse works fine in my new MSI Sword 17 B14 laptop, and also in my HP Omen laptop.
i also talk my MSI Support, where i referred all the abovementioned issues. They finaly told me that maybe the HP wireless keyboard 230 and mouse is not compatible with the MSI Sword 17 B14 laptop. Is it possible? Why? Please help me.
