Ok so I bought the HP 2000 with the intel I3 core last week. The wifi has never worked properly.
I downloaded all 3 software updates and tried installing them all until one worked. I restarted my computer and found that no change had happened, until the next morning. Great, I thought it was fixed. It had definitely improved as the bars had gone up from 1 and a half to four!
However, I still have the same problem with it occassionally deciding that the passkey for a particular network is no longer correct, when of course it definitely is.
How can I resolve this problem? If I don't get it resolved, I'm definitely returning this notebook and getting a refund!

I have exactly the same problem. Everything was working yesterday until HP support assistance program indicate some updates ( those include an update for my wireless card - atheros ) then it stop working and I cannot make it work no matter what.
HP please fix the issue created by the driver update probably.
Thanks,
Mafra

Hi otey. What is the model number of your notebook? What version of Windows is installed? Has wireless ever worked for you? What is it you are trying to connect to wirelessly?

Model number is HP 2000-2D11DX with I3 processor. I have Windows 8.1 that I did the update via Windows Update in the same day I bought it.
As I told you my Wireless was working just fine since I bought it a month ago. On 11/20/2013 HP Assistance program ( The one in the task bar with big ? ) said I needed to perform some updates. Between them there were one for the wireless and one for the wireless button. Since then it does not recognize any wireless network.
I know it is not my router since I have other 3 laptops and some cellphones in my house and they all work.

Windows 8.1

More info on this issue. I run ipconfig /all and my wireless adapter does not show. It seems it is not there where it actually is. I can see it as active on network adapter, but not on command prompt.

Hi Mafra. Your notebook does not have drivers available for 8.1 available on HP's driver page.
You can try to reinstall the wireless driver using this method, sometimes this fixes the changes made from the previous updates.
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8):

Restore drivers did not work. It is a wear behavior. Driver is installed, windows show adapter as active, but applications show adapter as offline and also command prompt ipconfig /all does not even list the adapter like it was not there.
I saw in the list of drivers that version 10.0.0.264 is windows 8.1 compatible, but that did not help also.
I will make backups and re-install everything from scratch using HP recovery tool. It will be a nightmare to install again everything I have there so far, but at this point HP support did not give me any other choice.
Thanks,
Rafael Mafra
