When replacing the Wireless card Intel 3945agb with Intel N 1030, the message "104-unsupported wireless network device detected. system halted. remove device and restart" appears.

Intel assures that these 2 cards are compatible.

Model: DV-6600 series (DV-6660eb), manufactured in 2007.

Vista Premium (32 bit)

No change on HW and SW since it was bought

BIOS: F5A (latest version according to HP, 2010).

How to enable the Intel Wireless Card? (Upload BIOS of recent products with N 1030, such as DV6-6xxx, G6-1xxx, ...  ?)

Thanks

Your BIOS is not supporting the new WLAN card. You see the supported WLAN modules in the service guide of your platform: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295877.pdf

Intel 4965 802.11 agbn would be supported.

thanks for your quick reaction.

yes, this is a sound alternative (Intel 4965bgn)

the N 1030 has been selected because of its combination with Bluetooth.

Any suggestion? Try Windows 7 BIOS on VISTA OS (because most probably, recent BIOS will contain recent Wireless LAN cards in white list)??

Thanks

You should only use the BIOS that is listed for your notebook/OS. So in your case, BIOS F5A.

thanks, seems there is no way to have the N1030 operational, although Intel confirms that any Intel Dual Core processor is compatible with the Centrino-family wireless cards (in this case N1030).

It is remarkable that a PCIe standard is not compatible with its own specs, because a BIOS from HP prevents  it.

Please comment on this potential solution: upgrade Vista to Windows 7 and install the BIOS that suits with the latter OS.

Thanks

This error has nothing to do with OS.

It is what is called a "WHITELIST" in the BIOS.

It only allows you to use the cards that are on that list.

From past experience HP does not update BIOS's to allow more cards to be used.

There could be a flash that will disable the BIOS from looking at the card installed but I have not found it.

Sorry

ok, thanks for explaining the cause.

hopefully, there is a way to pass the white list in the BIOS.

solved by flashing BIOS F.5A with whitelist removed:

Great to see you found it!!!!!!!!!!

Will have to mark this one for the future.

Thanks Shredderrr.
