Hi there @JimMarko

Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I read your post on the HP Support Forums. I wanted to reach out to you and help! I understand that you are receiving error code 1618 on your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC

I did some extensive research on the error code and I found out that basically that specific error message means that an installation is still running in the Windows Installer Service. This error can be for any type of installation from Apps to Windows Updates.

You could try to do a System Restore in Windows 10. Restoring will not affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made:

  • Go to the Control Panel.
  • Search Control Panel for Recovery.
  • Select Recovery
  • Open System Restore
  • Click Next.
  • Choose the restore point before the problematic app, driver, or update, was installed
  • Click Next
  • Click Finish.

You had mentioned that the previous installation was accidentally stopped and then when you tried to uninstall it, it would not let you. If the System Restore does not work for you, you can try to end the Windows Installer Process manually if you are not trying to install anything else (including Windows Updates):

Open Task Manager
Go to the "Processes" tab
Select "Show processes from all users" if it is not already.
End any "MSIExec.exe" entries you see.
