It "solves" the issue because you are no longer using the defective or incompatible drivers, so you should be able to complete your video chat sessions without a problem. The downside, at least for me, is using up a usb port and adding clutter to your desk setup. I also did not want to spend too much on something I shouldn't need in the first place but then risk wasting $10-$20 on a possible dud of a mic. The microphones rated as good or excellent are expensive and I don't intend to use it for podcasting or recording music.

I had already gone back to my 12 year old Toshiba Satellite for my child's Zoom meetings while waiting on a possible fix. It was running Vista and no longer supported Chrome or Explorer, so I swapped the HDD to a SDD and booted it with Chromium from Neverware. It is now basically a chromebook but I had to use a webcam I had laying around because the one on the laptop is useless. I eventually decided on getting an external mic for this Envy to take advantage of the incorportated webcam and touchscreen which I think is easier for small children.

This isn't necessary. Just got to the AMD website, go to the support/drivers pages, and download the driver package. Then pause Windows Update. It will work great. I have been on Zoom since 8:30, and the only issue I've had was actually from my Roku not my computer.

I've downloaded the drivers from AMD each time this ocurrs. Shutdown after error and buzzing noise, re-download Radeon graphics drivers, etc. It works until it doesn't, as soon as the very next day and usually while I am not home. Like I stated before, I am willing to try the pause updates approach for a longer period, but since I am not the one on Zoom I want to avoid having this issue interrupt sessions. It's easier to bypass defective mic.

I have reported the problem to AMD. I suggest that all of you who are in the same situation do the same. Maybe we should also escalate our complaint at HP. It's intolerable they are selling products that are defective and do not seem to do anything to solve the problem.

I received this email from AMD this morning. I installed and it did prevent Windows from trying to reinstall the wrong drivers. Hopefully, this will fully fix the issue at least until they can get the correct ones in Windows...

Thank you for your email
Thank you for providing the details
I request you to give a try by performing clean installation of 20.8.3 driver to your OS by using the DDU utility and check the issue status .
I suggest you to please disable the windows auto update in the "Show and hide" tool
To be on the safer side, I request you to please create System Restore point before performing any troubleshooting steps.

I sent my laptop for repair to HP a week ago. I paid extra for 24-hour delivery. The expected delivery of the repaired unit was supposed to be today. Now I check and they changed it to next Monday. In the meantime, I lost my 30-day window to return it to Amazon. I am so pissed!!! Last time I buy anything from HP!!!
