My HP laptop did automatic updates and decided a BIOS update was necessary.  I've been staring at a squiggley screen that has progress at 100% for 2 hours now.  The fan is running, the caps lock button is blinking and my wireless button is showing not connected.  The keyboard is not responsive.

Is this normal??

No, it isn't. BIOS update process should not take more than approx. 3-5 min.

OK, So I woke up and it's still stuck at 100% with a squiggly screen, fan running, unresponsive keyboard.

What am I supposed to do?

This is hp support, huh?  lol

Actually this is not HP support.  This is a user forum.  If it were me, I would hold the power button until it shut down, remove the battery and power cord unit, and hold the power button down again for 30 seconds.  Then put the battery back in, plug the power cord back in,  and try the power button again to see what happens.  It could be that all is well and no further intervention.  If that is not the case, let us know what it does now.

Yeah, that's what I will do when I arrive home from work, thanks.  Based on what i've read,  if it didn't work the PC will revert back to last installed BIOS.  Worst case is pretty bad though...lol

I did think this was HP'S site as their logo is used and unless i'm mistaken, I was able to link here from their site.

Im having the same problem with my lap top when I try to update the BIOS with HP Support Assistant. It finish of downloading and installing the new software but inmediately the lap top doesnt works adn I cant restart the computer

I have tried pressing the power button for a lot of seconds but it doesnt works.

Any solution?

If it will not shut down by hoding the power button, then the only other way to shut down it to remove the power unit and then remove the battery.  Leave it sit for awhile.  Press and hold the power button 30 seconds or more while in this state.  Reinstall the battery and power unit and try a restart.

I held the power button down and turned the machine off.  On restart it advised a BIOS update is available, press enter or esc to install during next restart.  I hit esc.

After restarting I was not advised of a BIOS update.

I'm also having problems with downloads stalling at 60% (I can't even do a backup).  I was hopeful these updates would help this issue.
