hi I have an HP 8440p and have recently changed the original hard drive for an SSD.

Since I have done this, I am regularly getting a BIOS error message (502). Theme machine then goes on to boot but in the process loses the original date/time settings. When this first started occurring I suspected that the CMOS battery was flat, and changed it out for a new one. This did not solve the problem.

I have successfully updated the BIOS to the most recent version which should, according to the HP website, resolve the error 502 problem. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case.

Could this possibly have anything to do with SSD's behaving in a subtly different way to the standard HD?

Any assistance in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Cameron

Hello, @Nyoni

To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP EliteBook 8440p Notebook PC is a commercial product. You can do this at Notebook - HP ProBook, ZBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE.

The support page for your product may be helpful in the meantime:

I hope this helps!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
