There are no master passwords or password generators for EliteBooks and ProBooks.

You must contact HP Support.

Hi 

I have been given a hp elitebook 2740p

I cant get in to the bios to change the boot order so i can reformat.

Any chance of a key password for the bios. I was told a four digit code but that doesnt work.

Also i have tried entering the password in 3 times but not code comes up.

Any ideas would be appreciated. If its a dud i will bin the laptop.

It is an Elitebook so either you can switch the chip (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNLOCK-HP-ELITEBOOK-BIOS-PASSWORD-RESET-CHIP-2530p-2540p-2730p-2740p-8530p-8... or call up HP and ask to have them generate unlock bin file

that looks pretty difficult so i'll contact hp and see what they can do.

soldering does require some experience - I did mess up one 2570p unit with a switch of a BIOS (!!!), but now I see no problem making such changes for myself or others. Certainly getting unlock file from HP is easier, but it takes time and sometimes they refuse to provide such unlock files.

i have zero knowledge of where this laptop came from. We think an ex collegue left it.
