Hi All,

I need some help as I cannot remove password from BIOS. I have forgotten it. I have contacted HP Customer Service and recieved the email from HP containing the SMC File.

I have taken the following steps as listed in email

Please follow these steps to clear BIOS password:

Save the attached file with this e-mail to USB key as SMC.BIN and insert to the system (or save the file to the root of drive 😧 HP_TOOLS)
- Press "Windows Key + Arrow UP Key + Arrow Down Key" all keys at same time and turn on the system
- Release all keys and press F10 at HP logo to go to F10 setup to “Reset BIOS security to factory default”

Please make sure USB key is formatted to FAT 32

Is there anything that I am doing wrong. I am also not sure about the date and time in BIOS, is there anyway to check it without putting in the password.

Thanks for the help in advance

I have tried it but didn't work. The screen remains blank and does not come on at all with the windows + b key. Waited for over 5 minutes and tried it 4 times now. Thank you for your time

Thank you Reo, I have just ordered the BIOS chip now. I have disconnected the RTC battery and the date/time has been reset so now HP is saying to replace the complete motherboard.

Thank you
