Hi Telstar1948.

Great to hear that things are now runnning like they should.

Would you happen to know what drivers were missing? Did they give you any specifics? If not, would you be able to inquire back to the folks that you dealt with at HP?

Cheers!

Sorry, they didn't provide any information about the drivers. They only provided a service center phone number if I found their fix didn't actually fix the problem. It said if I called to provide my customer service order (CSO) number, which they assigned when I filed a claim under the warranty. So I doubt that phone number would help anyone if you don't have a CSO number already.

The good news is that the battery drain after shutdown issue is fixable by HP. It may require different drivers &/or firmware depending on which Spectre or whatever you may have. Unless HP comes out with a more public fix for this, you may have to file a claim with them under your warranty (if you haven't already), and let them take your laptop, fix it and return it - hopefully without adding scratches to the case!

Good to hear it went good for you! I hope we soon get some official response from HP instead of trying to intall some file someone recommended that I dont know is safe. I hope we dont have to wait for to long. I guess I have to contact HP if they didnt respond anytime soon officialy.

You can just virus scan it yourself, I did it prior to uploading gave me nothing. Or you can just sandbox it or create a restore point and try.

I'd say the only fear you should have is error flashing bios but HP has dedicated harddrive space for BIOS rollback if it fails so... really doesn't hurt you? 😛

Or you can just trust me, haha either way, I hope it gets resolved for you, Happy Thanksgiving!

I am trying the Sphinx fix now... was able to follow the instructions.... now let's see after 24 hrs... will post..

So final follow-up for now I think. I turned back on fast startup in power settings and enabled the usb charging in the BIOS again.

I turned off my computer at 1PM today at 78% battery. Turned it back on a few minutes ago at 10:30PM and still at 78%. I  think whatever was fixed with the Sphinx instuctions and .exe files worked for me and my Kaby Lake  i7 Spectre x360.

Hope everyone else with that same system is able to follow my walk through of how to install in my previous post (still at your own risk)

I don't leave any USB peripherals plugged in right now so can't vouch for how those would have responded before and after using the fix. Good luck everyone.

Hurray!

Over 12 hrs and absolutely no drain still at 100%!!!

The Sphinx fix works, so i think it was the bloody SSD driver or related that caused the issue!

I have quickly shut it down again, and will check back tomorrow when it will be more than 24hrs!

Looks promising so far! and confident i will get through beyond 24hrs as others who tried the fix did.

Hope this fixes battery drain while shutdown issue on spectre x360 late 2016 kaby lake machines!

Good luck!

P.S. Thanks to Senchronize for posting the Sphinx fix!!! you are a champ! and thanks to Rajamahal for trying it out and guiding others with steps.

Cheers

Agreed f1fan.

Do you think you and I should open a tech ticket at the same time and have them refer to this thread and the fix that has been promoted by some of the members here?

I just want them to send me an official file(s) and let me apply these fixes on my own. I don't want to send them my laptop, as it's in pristine condition and I don't want any scratches.

I feel if members here on this thread submit tech support tickets all at once, it will motivate HP to get on their horse and promote a fix, which will then alleviate the strain on their tech support mailboxes.

What say you all? I say we flood their tech support mailboxes with demands for an official HP fix!

It is official. The fix actually changed settings that actually changed the performance. If it was a virus, it'd be very rare this guy took this software, planted virus and sent out.

Hi Rajamahal.

I'm not claiming that the fix may contain harmful files... I would just prefer that I download the fix officially from HP. This would also mitigate any risk of voiding any warranty.

I'm glad to hear that this unofficial fix is working for members.

Cheers!
