just wanted to chime in and say thanks for all the effort people have put towards fixing this. i have the same issue as many of you, just this monday i bought a Kbaby Lake i7 7500U, 16 gb ram, 512 gb ssd, spectre x360. the battery dosent seem to drain for the first 3 or 4 hours of being off but within 8 hours of being off it looses 8-9%. the laptop came out of the box with 62% battery so presumably it wont drain past this but i havent tested that. i think just out of curiosity ill run the battery down to 60 tonight and see if it still drains when that low but its irrelevent, a few % per day drain is what i consider acceptable not 1% per hour on average. this is the 4th laptop ive owned and my friends have laptops but this is the first time ive ever heard of an issue like this.

update, it seems SPHINX does work i just had to run the process 2 times. so if you try sphinx and it dosent work just restart your computer and run through the steps again, it worked for me. currently 19 hours in still at 100% battery

Good morning,

I have been following this thread and just received the Spectre x360 (13-w063nr) purchased directly from HP.  I am experiencing the battery drain issue (10% drain in 10 hours while off) and just called technical support for assistance.  After a 40 minute call, I received confirmation that HP is aware of this issue and that HP is working on rolling out a BIOS fix - but that the BIOS fix is not yet available online to the general public.  I was further told that to fix this known issue, I would need to send my computer to HP and they would fix the battery drain issue by installing the non-public BIOS update.  When I declined to send my computer (I'm hesitant to do so as it would create a "serviceable event" under my extended warranty), the technician escalated my issue to a "case manager" who, I was told, would call me within 48 hours to further discuss the issue.

When I asked the technician when HP expected to roll out the BIOS fix to the public, the representative said that it would hopefully happen in a few weeks.

I will update this thread after speaking with the case manager.  However, I hope the above information is helpful.

That is good info. I called them today and the person wasn't even aware of this issue. Morons.

I was going to exchange it at best buy but it might be useless, right?

Just a note to say I had the same issue - 13-w0xx i5 machine.  Battery would go from 100% to 70% charge in 48h of being totally switched off.

I tried the 'Sphinx' firmware update and the issue has been completely resolved, there's now no battery loss after 24h of power down.

Talked to a case manager and he said he is not aware of the issue.

This is a follow up to my earlier post.   I have not been able to ascertain what HP did to my machine, but the drain is less - it's used to drain 0.5% per hour, it now drains at about 0.1% per hour.  It's not perfect but better.

I exchanged the orignal and even the new one has the exact same problem.  This can't be a coincidence and has to be more widespread.  My unit is the 13-w013dx model.  So is this simply a software issue that can be resolved soon or a hardware issue?  Bestbuy can't be happy with people returning new items this many times.

See the drop there.

I bought the x360 13-w011tu 4 weeks ago and experienced this problem. I returned it got another one 2 weeks ago and it had the same issue, 15-20% batter drain per 24hrs shut down. I was on the phone with HP back and forth and I stumbled on this thread. I pointed it out to the HP technitian who looked into it. Got a call yesterday and he installed the some software remotely and now no battery drain over an 18 hour test. I don't know much about computers but I noted the software that was installed had the words Sphinx in the name (along with numbers etc).

He advised me that HP will post instructions for the fix on this thread. I know how frustrating this issue was for me so I made a HP forum account just to let you guys know in advance. Hopefully the official fix is released soon.

You guys really need to read the whole thread. We've had and used the Sphinx fix for over a week now, with success in it fixing the battery drain on our kaby lake i7 machines.

The fix provided by the community is awesome but it hasn't worked for everyone and HP is "unaware" of the issue is frustrating.
