@Demogo it's funny how your situation is so similar to mine! I also called HP yesterday for this issue, the guy was aware of the issue and tried to install the Sphinx patch with no success. Then I rebooted and retried, installed successfully.

Now I know some of you are reporting an updated Sphinx update.exe?

The exe that the tech launched to install the patch on my PC is:

flash_Rev9_TI14_B8_Sign.exe

Am I ok or should I reinstall the patch another way?

After leaving the laptop shut down and disconnected from the AC adapter I'm getting the 6% drop like everyone but the battery drain afterwards seems minimal.

I just updated the NVMe controller driver and I'm about to install the Win10 Anniversary update. Will keep you posted.

FYI I asked the HP tech if the Sphinx patch was updating the Thunderbolt controller and he told me it has nothing to do with it. He said it was updating the code (firmware?) of some ICs on the motherboard so that they power off completely like they should.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with thunderbolt firmware.. Did you check the thunderbolt software? What does the PD firmware version say? I've seen computers that didn't have the Sphinx fix applied and PD firmware give a version number, for me after Sphinx fix PD firmware version says N/A.

I am also getting thunderbolt related Error

here is the output.

Perhaps someone can help me as well

Do you have your Thunderbolt Software installed? You can find it on the support pages of your specific model. Reinstall the software and try again. After that you can check firmware versions in the thunderbolt software.

Ive owned many laptops. My spectre 360 does this draining issue like the others...never noticed this on previous other brands. Ive had 3 HP laptops. First one was great but heated up way to much. 2nd one made me ban hp for a while until i saw the spectre....got the larger one... and although im happy with it other than when i use it once a week or so...the battery has drained. Computer is shut off. Yet it uses battery power? Very very strange. The answers here are not helpful. I wonder what this computer is programmed to do while its off!!!!?

Thank you

After update it by this steps:

Right click on the Install_QIO file and run as administrator in DC power mode.

The computer will restart automatically.

Right click on the Flash file and run the as administrator.

The computer will shutdown automatically a few seconds later. (Unplug from power during this procces)

Leave the computer OFF for 10 seconds.

Close and reopen the lid.

Power on the computer.

Open the PD FW Ver check folder.

Click on the PDFwflash_X32_v01.exe file.

Select Get Ver to check the FW version. The correct version is 0x14.

I recheck my specture x360 after 24 housrs.

The problem was solved!!!

Thank you again

I've been so focused on what my spectre is doing when it is powered off that I hadn't spent much time with it sleeping. Somewhere along the way, the windows hello camera has stopped working after it wakes up from a sleep. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't like that when I first got it.  however, in addition to the sphinx update multiple times, I've also done other updates and a BIOS update. I don't see anything that specifically mentions the camera, though...

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this...I did some googling around and someone said I needed to update the camera driver but when I checked it said that there wasn't a new driver for it.  I actually don't mind just typing in the pin but I'm not sure what else is affected...

I have only started using Windows Hello recently... After all of the updates and my camera also has trouble getting started by windows hello after sleep... But it seems intermittent rather than continuous.

I gave up on the Spectre x360.  Just too much trouble for what should be a premium laptop.  I had three of them from Best Buy over the course of two months.  All said "Sphinx-step" on the box, meaning the Sphinx fix had already been applied.  No matter, they all drained at about 12% in a 24 hour period when off.

I sent one in for repair of the battery drain problem.  Took them two weeks.  When it came back, it still didn't work correctly.  Plus there were other problems.  Of the three I had, two had audio issues where the audio would suddenly get very soft or cut out altogether.  One had a camera that would not focus.  Interestingly, that camera identified itself in hardware as a different model than the other two.  One of the units had a loose trackpad that would rattle when touched.

Again, just really poor quality for a premium product.  And to add insult to injury, a rep from the TCO Escalations Team said that battery drain while off of this magnitude was normal for the x360, proven by the fact that I had three of them and they all worked the same way.  Say what?  HP tech support really doesn't know what they are talking about.

While I was testing the battery drain problem, I did similar tests on a Surface Pro 3 and a five year old Lenovo Thinkpad.  Niether of them showed the battery drain anomolies exhibited by the Spectre x360.  I'm done.  I've returned all the x360s and won't be buying HP again.
