I will read whatever would bring "enlightenment" but I strongly believe that would not explain why MY laptop acts like that. Have you ever heard or read about any other laptop acting like that. If you have, then what was the cause or the remedy ?

Bottom line, I opened this thread to know if there is someone out there facing the same problem (or similar) and to hopefully find the cause and/or the remedy. I opened this thread because I couldn't accept those contradictory signs and just dump the old batt. Believe it or not, I knew the day I bought the **bleep** laptop that 2 years later I would have to buy a knew battery. The life of any kind of rechargeable battery is around 2 years, I heard of batts living longer than that and I also heard of ones living less or dying prematurely, but I've never heard of batteries whose readings are ok but behavior not ok. Well, I didn't find cause nor remedy, so... allow me to not accept batt replacement as a solution. Thank you, anyway, for your time !

You aren't alone... I am having the same problem with my HP G62. I did the manual calibration once and the laptop started dieing at 40%. I did it again and now it dies at 50%. Even if this means that it has half the original life left, I'd be happier if it would only charge to 50% and would die at 5%. As it is, to ensure it doesn't unexpectedly, I've had to alter the power settings so that the first power alarm is at 60% and second is at 55% with it hibernating if it hits that level.

Definitely something strange about this.

I was having this same problem starting a few days ago. I read your thread and found no real answer so I called the HP hotline. They first had me get some system info (which wasn't too bad), but they had me download hp support assistant I don't want that crappy software on my computer... Anyway, it wouldnt work because apparently the HP assistant only works for the manufactuer distributed OS. what kind of a crap software does that?...

Then they proceeded to tell me that inorder for me to get a new batter, I would have to reinstall the OS that came with the computer (Homepremium with bloatware deluxe) and that I would have to get the diagnostic tool to report the problem before I could have a replacement battery sent out to me. I work for the IT department and I know a thing or two, and so I managed to get the battery diagnostic tool to work. The battery status turned out to be ok (which I had already told the hp representative), and then he started to tell me about how the battery, with time will degrade - no {Content Removed} sherlock. I work with computers, I am not stupid.

I started educating the representative on the phone that there was a physical defect in the battery and that somehow there was a loose circuit in the battery that did not allow the laptop to access all of the stored electricity. Didn't understand a single word I said. He then told me that there wasn't anything that I could do and that I would have to go to a local HP store and buy a replacement battery. After 2 hours of that **bleep**, I asked to talk to the supervisor. The supervisor said that since it was a special case, he couldn't do anything about it and that it needed to be escalated to a case manager. Why did you waste 2 hours of my time then?

those pricks at hp support do not know anything about computers. If you have a similar problem to mine, HP wont be able to help you. I thought that when my friends told me that HP support sucked, that they were joking, but they werent kidding.

Hello,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

I apologize for the frustration you have encountered thus far. I have read your post on how your battery is not able to hold a charge, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!

Since your battery is not able to keep a charge after numerous calibrations, I recommend following this document on how the Battery Does Not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge. This resource should help explore all possible options as to why the battery is not charging, and how to proceed next.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as your findings will help me piece together an answer for you in a timely manner. I look forward to your reply!
