I have had my Hp dv7 notebook for a few months now and have had no problems. But all of a sudden, I turn on the computer and see nothng but a blank, black screen. I do not know if I changed the display settings or what, but I cannot see anything. I know the computer is functioning because the fan turns on and the keyboard lights work. When I connected my laptop to an external monitor, I was able to see that my computer was on and fully functional. In fact, I am using it right now on an external monitor to type this message.

Just wondering if I made a silly mistake or if this is something serious, please help asap

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,

If you press f4 do you see a menu on the external display with the options 'Computer Only; Duplicate; Extend; Projector Only'?  If you do, use the arrow keys to select Duplicate then hit enter.

Does anything show on your notebooks screen now?

Let me know before going any further.

Regards,

Hi again,

I am again having the exact same problem as before. Except now, when I press F4 and select duplicate display, the laptop screen remains blank. Any other ideas? I do not know if this is the same problem or something different, but the computer was working fine for about 2 weeks and now this...

Thanks, Mike

You are lucky.  You can connect to an external monitor.  I cannot get that to happen.  HP, are you still in the pc business?

I have a black, blank screen issue as well. Lights go on, caps lock and numbers lock buttons are flashing. Fan sounds and computer 'sounds' although it actually sounds like it is struggling. Earlier today, I did have a message saying that there was a startup issue...computer see arched for startup repair? It worked fine... Then I went to use it, and to no avail...nothing works to get the screen to show...searched forums etc. can someone help???

I have a Pavilion dv4-2145dx, and after about two months of him openning help pages from anything I used, and making a strang noise when turning on after hybernating, it won´t turn on. It's stuck on a blank screen, the capslock and numlock buttons are flashing, but nothing will make it turn on. I have tried everything they advice in foruns, but it doesn't work. What should I do?
