HP is putting computers in the market with faulty RAM slots in my case there was only one stick in a the good slot.

I found out because I tried to upgrade.  The RAM slot didn't even allow the RAM stick to lock.  Of course the warranty is up.  I reconmmend you all check you second RAM slots and or try to upgrade RAM before the 1 year warranty is up if you find out the RAM slot are faulty they won't replace the motherboard or computer after the year.  Of course if you have a special extended warranty just do it before it expires.  I am really disapointed with HP.

IF warranty expired hit me up if there is more of us maybe HP will replace our motherboards.

Hi Huffer,

Thanks for asking.  I am not sure which digits are more appropiate but here are the relevant ones.

I am not sure if you will be able to help, its a hardware issue, slot 1 doesn't lock the RAM stick properly so its loose and computer never recognizes the stick.

Just so I understand you have a single laptop that is having an issue and you wrote this:

HP is putting computers in the market with faulty RAM slots

Are you aware of this issue happening in any other laptop or any other "computers" because I have to tell you I work this Forum most days and have been since 2007 and I worked the business Forum for 6 years before that and there is no epidemic of this issue. I have seen it happen maybe 2 or 3 times in nearly 15 years. Manufacturing defects can happen but it is another thing to claim there is some mass distribution of faulty hardware.

Now, can you post a picture of the problem perhaps so we can deal with your personal issue and leave it on that basis?

Huffer,

The true numbers will never now because with  a few exceptions the regular costumer with 4GB in a single slot is going never going to complain.  He will be happy with 4Gb of RAM and eventually buy a different laptop.  One 4GB stick in one good RAM slot with a faulty second one.

I am an exception i want to run vitual machines with android development and java development kits maybe a web server with MSsql and visual studio.  I bought the computer with enough processing power but need some extra RAM.

I however I broke the main rule of costumerism which is to make all my upgrades if I going to even ugrade because how dare I upgrade my computer after one year.  Then I found the faulty slot too late.

If this only happens 2 or 3 times then I imagine the other cases may have been under warraty why doesn't HP pick up my bill.  I am a poor student trying finish school  HP is a corporation with billions in revunues.

You are right I only have one laptop with this problem but its the only laptop I have which means HP has failed 100% of the time.

I know HP operates with diffent numbers in billions of units and billions of dollars.  Us costumers operate in maybe one laptop per customer.

I may have 3 laptops in my life and I would like to say HP is great.

I can't show the issue with a static picture I would need video.  Can I upload video?

here is a link to video

You did not show yourself trying to install the top memory module. It goes in at an angle so that you can drive it into the slot. It looks to me as if you do not have the module all the way in the slot. The slot looks normal to me.

Roll to 1:25 in this video and see how to do it properly:

I never said the slot didn't look normal. I said the RAM Slot will not allow the RAM stick to go in properly so that it locks correctly.  The slot is not deep enough.  I can show you video of me faling to secure the stick in the slot but you wouldn't convince yourself that its the slot until you tried yourself.  I appreciate you trying to help but sometimes the hardware its just faulty, i have accepted that I am gulty of upgrading my PC too late.

You are right. It is impossible to tell how deep the slot is by looking at a video I just wanted to be sure you were using the correct installation technique. No way to prove you are not. Sorry for your troubles.
