HP 15-g075nr Notebook
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I went to the HP web site, had the site determine my notebook type, and then downloaded the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 driver, and installed it.  After installing, the device manager still has the network device listed under OTHER and when I tell it to update the driver, it says it can't find a driver for the device.

How do I get a device driver that I can use to get WiFi running?

P.S. I have installed 100's of device drivers, so I know how to do that, it is just the fact that the one on your web site does not work with my notebook.

P.S.S. The computers wifi was working with windows 8, but I have reinstalled windows 7, 64 bit.

Hi:

That is why the Atheros driver isn't working, and the parts list even stated your model came with the Atheros card, which is why I didn't question it.  Plus I also assumed you checked the model wireless card your notebook had when running on W8.1.

Here are the links to the drivers you need...

Wireless:  The RTL8188EE wireless card does not come with bluetooth.

I installed the new driver, and same thing... Still won't install...

Interestingly, when you run the Setup.EXE from the Win7 folder, you get the Qualcomm screen, saying it is going to install, and click to install.  then the screen disappears, you never get a screen saying the driver was successfully installed.

Then you get a windows screen saying that the program did not install correctly.

There is a seperate folder called ndis6xWin7 that appears to have driver files in it... But when I manually try to use that folder to install the driver, it says it can't find a driver.

The device is listed as a network controller in the Other section of the Device Manager.

That is totally strange.

Did you try forcing the driver to install by selecting the "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option, then click on Have Disk and browse to that setup information file and pick the specific qualcomm atheros wireless card you have from the list?

Yes I did, and it keeps telling me it can't find the driver....  Yea, have done this type of thing hundreds of times, but apparently it thinks the driver files are not the right ones for that device????

Did you check the hardware ID of the wireless card to make sure the entire ID string is included in the driver setup information file?

If it is not, then we need to find a driver that includes that specific ID in the setup information file.

If you did and it is present, I would contact HP technical support and submit a support case if your notebook is still under warranty.

Interestingly, both devices that will not install have hardware ids of VEN_10EC which it looks like to me are Realtek devices.  Do you have any drivers that might be for them?

The card reader is a Realtek PCIE CardReader with driver id of PCI/VEN_10EC&DEV_5229&SUBSYS_22CD103C&REV_01

and the Network Controller is a Realtek RTL8188E Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC with driver id of

PCI/VEN_10EC&DEV_8179&SUBSYS_197D103C&REV_01

The PC us under warranty until Aug '15.

Perfect... That did it...

I did not check before hand the hardware drivers, as I figured what devices didn't start automatically, I would just jump on HP's web site and they would have the ones needed..

Thank you so much for your help.
