Hello. I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6059eo with Windows 7 64-bit. My GPU is a Radeon HD 6770M. I've had this problem for 2 months without being able to fix it, so help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had the AMD graphics drivers installed which I downloaded from the official HP driver site, but my programs and games often crashed because of my display driver restarting. I googled the problem, and I found out that some other people have had the problem as well, and that it could be because of outdated graphics drivers.

So I uninstalled the graphics drivers from HP and I downloaded the newer ones from the AMD website (I now know that this isn't the proper way to upgrade them) and it worked, but after a while I wanted to switch back to the HP drivers, because of some functions missing.

So I uninstalled the drivers from AMD and I downloaded the HP drivers for my product again, however this time the installer does not seem to be able to install the drivers at all. Right now I am using the intel GPU.

When I try to install the drivers, the only things that the installer wants to install are these:

And when it's done, it says "Installation complete (warnings occured during installation). View Log for details." But when I click "View Log" it doesn't show any errors:

And when I go to my install programs, the only new program that seems to have appeared is this:

I've tried removing ALL AMD drivers before installing but it still doesn't work. Thank you in advance.

I understand you want to install the HP switchable graphics driver for your system, but it doesn't actually install the driver.

I see that this system has a switchable graphics platform and that the original HP driver was installed prior to installing the AMD driver.  This could actually corrupt the switchable graphics system resulting in the AMD card not being detected properly.  The only to fix this, if that is the case, is to perform a full system recovery.  However, there can be other causes as well.

First, run this uninstall utility to ensure that all elements of the AMD package are removed and reboot for good measure once it is finished.  This is a more advanced uninstall method than using Programs and Features.

Next, install this driver for your system.  Reboot for good measure.

Once this is completed, let me know what happens with the re-install.  If possible, I recommend updating the AMD drivers via Steam   You may have to use the catalyst control center to assign Steam to the high-performance card if the system is using dynamic switchable graphics.  The steps to assign programs can be found here under Figure 1.  If the AMD card is not detected by Steam, then you will get a message that you need to get the drivers from somewhere else.  If you do get that message and have dynamic switchable graphics, most do, then manually assigning Steam to the high-performance card should do the trick.  Do note that the Steam update method will only work once the switchable graphics are working properly.

Also, what does device manager show for Display Adapters?
