I can open up quick start to access the internet. When I open windows 7 i see her user name and we try to log in but her password does not work. I then try to reset - and that's when "it" asks for the usb flash memory. Can I download something from HP support site on a usb stick that can add/change user on windows 7?

Thanks//Ulrika

you can only reset the password when you have already created a password reset disc when you set the password...HP does not provide any utitlity to break the password.........

you can try the following steps:

NOTE:  Win 7 is more secure operating system hence functionality of this trick is not guarantied..... come back and we will assist you with the next options....

  1. Turn on the computer....
  2. Tap f11 it goes to recovery manager
  3. Press ALT+D
  4. Now command prompt opens
  5. Type  “CD\ “ press Enter
  6. Type “C:” press Enter
  7. Type “CD WINDOWS” press Enter
  8. Type “CD SYSTEM32” press Enter
  9. Type “REN UTILMAN.EXE OLDDUTILMAN.EXE” press Enter
  10. Type “REN CMD.EXE UTILMAN.EXE” press Enter
  11. Restart the computer
  12. As soon as the computer started start tapping “F8”
  13. Select  “SAFE MODE” press Enter
  14. Now u see the logon screen
  15. Click on the arrow icon at bottom left corner, when u click on it  “command prompt” window appeared
  16. Now type in the “COMMAND PROMPT” window as following: NET USER “USER NAME” * press Enter

For example: net user steve * press Enter (after u press Enter) it ask like this:

  1.
    • Type a new password to reset: ”type a new password with out quotes” press Enter
    • ReEnter the password: ”type a new password with out quotes” press Enter

  1. Type “EXIT”
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Now login screen appears
  4. Enter the created password
  5. Now we will be able to login to the desktop

Warning: Please do not include “ “ while using any command

After doing all these steps do not forget to restore the original settings as u made earlier

Follow these steps to restore:

  1. Go to the recovery manager

  1. Press “alt+d”
  2. Type “cd\” press Enter
  3. Type “c:” press Enter
  4. Type “cd windows” press Enter “cd system 32” press Enter

  1. Now type “ren utilman.exe cmd.exe” press Enter “ren oldutilman.exe utilman.exe” press Enter

  1. Now restart the computer

  1. Now all the setting are restored

Sounds complicated but I will try it. Not an IT expert

We actually know the password - if I try the wrong one - it just comes up as wrong password. If I log in with the right one - I get a page saying "the service User Profile Service failed with teh login" (but in Swedish) and then " It is not possible to read the userprofile"

I press OK - it comes up as logging out and then back to the login place.

I do not know if this makes a difference to your suggested approach.

You mention that we should have created a password reset disc when setting the password. Can I do that at anytime? I have another daughter who has a similar HP Mini (but slightly newer) with no problems (yet)  - should I create such a disc now then - and do you have any tips on how.

Must say Mini PC is not very user friendly for us novices...

Thanks for your advice 🙂

the issue you are having is not a wrong password. You have a corrupt profile
