HP EliteBook 840 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I don't know where this image is from but according to the post at https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Display-Output-options-Elitebook-840-... the HP EliteBook 840 G5 can drive 3 monitors including the notebook screen.

I am wondering, if I close the notebook screen, can it drive 3 external displays? The docking station has 2 DisplayPorts and a VGA port so I can plug 3 monitors into it.

So if I plug 3 monitors and then close the laptop screen, will it operate all 3 monitors?

Depending on the dock if the dock itself supported 3 external monitors then this would work. Please also check the second last column which implies we need to work out resolutions and refresh rates.

If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors, please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few options on market today including some HP products:

or try following HP docks

I don't have money to buy many docks to test. My actual 840 G5 is connected to a Lenovo USB-A dock which perfectly works on 3 FHD screens (including laptop screen) and when closing the lid, it won't work on the third external screen.

Regards

Note: 840 G5 machines have Thunderbolt 3 port.

I have the UltraSlim dock. It is the one that has 2 DP and 1 VGA. How can I tell if it would work for this monitor? And I don't need high resolution -- I want 1080p for all 3 of the monitors: 2x DP and 1x VGA.

How can I find out if this will work? I don't want to buy 3 monitors to find out it doesn't work. I don't need/want the screen monitor so I would just leave the laptop docked with the screen closed.

What can I do with the Thunderbolt port? I was hoping to use the dock I already have. But, if I can't use the dock I already have to drive 3 monitors then what dock would I need?
