Pavilion x360
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have been handed this HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 PC (ENERGY STAR) model with Windows 7 64-bit, only with a wireless adapter working. For obvious reasons, nothing else other than sound is working. No Chip chip, ethernet, USB, or any other important drivers are working.

It has been apparent that Windows 7 doesn't belong on this machine, and although there are only drivers for it for 8.1 and 10, I am puzzled and confused to what step to take next to resolve this issue?

I can't removed the drive, it's mounted oddly internally, like it's glued or something... so, being that there is no USB drivers or any way to upgrade the OS without either of these methods... I suppose the only way is allowing the updates to conduct and see what happens.

Any suggestions and advise I am all ears on this matter.

Being that there is upgrade path, I am stuck?

Two possible solutions that I would probably use.

1-Order Recovery Media on USB from HP  to boot from and reinstall back to factory.800-474-6836

2-Use the Windows 8.1 media offered free by Microsoft to create usb to boot from to install Windows. Use drivers from Support page. License key embedded in BIOS should be retrieved automatically during installation.

I can not do either, windows 7 has bo drivers support... do you recommend a fast and easy way to do this?

Only have drivers for win 8.1 - nothing for Win 7... stumped.

Can't remove hdd either... glued or bolted underneath circuit board if I need to install OS any other way?

You do not need Windows 7 drivers to boot from Windows 8 media. Booting from it occurs before Windows 7 even loads and will provide its own drivers.

To boot from Windows 8 media insert the usb drive, power on the laptop. Immediately tap escape key. This should bring up a menu where F9 boot options is a choice. Tap f9. Use the arrow key to move down and highlight usb. Tap enter key.

Okay... how do I get the origi al wi dows 8.1 from HP for it belongs to this computer? Can I download from the website to place unto a usb drive?

I think this computer is odd... I press f9, and selected the boot manager, with only two choices:

Boot from EFI File

Notebook Hard Drive - Toshiba Mq01ABD100

When I selected the "Notebook Hard Drive" option it just boots back up into Windows 7.

When I select "EFI File" it takes me into file explorer... and nothing happens?

Not sure what else to do with this unit?!?!

Anyone please advise?

Wait... interesting enough... when I hit F11 I get this red/pink screen... actually more like red.

It reads on the top of the screen: GRUB4DOS 0.4.4 2009-09-03, Memory: 63K / 495M, MenuEnd: 0x4578B

Inside a dotted box I have choices:

Windows with SLIC Loader (pointer) (Default)

Windows with SLIC Loader (bootmgr)

Windows without SLIC Loader

Windows without SLIC Loader (use alternative method)

Windows without SLIC Loader (use low memory method)

Windows without SLIC Loader (full debug output)

Windows without SLIC Loader (more forceful - may crash)

Load External Menu (menu.lst)

Grub Command Line

Below these choices are the messages that read:

use the (arrows) up & down keys to highlight an entry, Press ENTER or 'b' to boot. Press 'e' to edit the commands before booting, or 'c' for a command-line.

If anyone can tell me what do here... I will be happy to do so... not sure otherwise to restore Windows 8.1 if it's even on this hdd. If not, then we are basically screwed.

Oh... by the way... as someone suggested to me eariler, there is no USB option to select upon pressing the f9 and doing the choice of how to boot up from... the USB option doesn't exist when and after you press f9.

Thanks, and I await a suitable response!? 🙂

Thanks, because next is Windows 10, which it can't do because of the wireless adapter it has been using... 10 said it jsnt compatible. Very odd... this is one chance to try... thanks, and will do on the sn# and all.... 🙂
