Okay, I have a HP 430 Notebook PC and I have recently purchased a new battery for the same. When I started using the new battery, as soon as I plugged in the power cord to charge the battery, the system showed the status “battery plugged in, not charging”. I have checked the power cord and adapter for signs of disrepair and they seem fine. Also, when I switched the computer off and left the battery power cord on, it charged upto 13% in normal time. What should I do as a fix? Since my battery is still under warranty, should I get it changed? Or is it a problem with all new HP components?

HP support Assistant has only Battery Check but not calibrate battery option. Atleast not for me. My HP support version is 7.4.45.4

I think this is a hardware issue and HP is sitting back and waiting for these laptops to get old and fade away.  When mine was doing that, I connected my Power Pack from my dv7 to it (120 watt) it worked fine.  I got a new 65 watt PP and now it works fine again.

I think the 65 watt Power Pack was maxing out charging it and when it gets old and possible looses some of its charging power it causes the problem.

I'm not an electrician but this solved the problem for me.  None of the tricks posted here worked.

I have the same issue with a NC4400... has anybody got a solution different than changing the motherboard?

It doesn't work for me. Please help me! My laptop is an HP pavilion dv3

I mentioned a few posts up how I solved mine.  So far it's still working but I don't use that laptop (dv4) very often.

If you have any way, check the power output on the power pack.  If not, is there a way you can try a HP power supply that has a stronger wattage, maybe borrow one from and friend to try.

This is obviously a design/defect in the Motheboard or Power Supply and I think HP should step up and extend the warranty on these laptops for this issue.

So far I haven't run into the issue with my dv7.

I already send the to them more than 4 times because the fan. Last time they change the motherboard.  I am really disappointed about the product and the way they always try to fix the computer.  Now, I don't have insurance for the laptop and I have a new problem. I really need help. Please..............................

I was able to fix it by doing these steps.

Device Manage -> Batteries - Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Complient Control Method Battery -> Removed my battery from my laptop - waited about a minute -> put it back in and scanned fo hardware changes.

There are multiple solutions proposed, and here are the steps that fixed it for me:

  1. Disconnect AC
  2. Shutdown
  3. Remove battery
  4. Connect AC
  5. Startup
  6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the ACPI Compliant Control Method Batterylistings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).
  7. Shutdown
  8. Disconnect AC
  9. Insert battery
  10. Connect AC
  11. Startup

And I use this hp Pavilion dv6-3019wm Battery for fix it.

, this solved the problem
