HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Howdy all.  We have an HP Envy laptop which we are trying to connect to an HP ProDisplay P232 monitor.  We have the HDMI to Port cable and have installed the P232 drivers on the laptop, but it still doesn't even recognize that a monitor is plugged in to the HDMI jack.  Any help?  Ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response.

It is a J9K05UA (or M7-K211-DX if that makes more sense?).

Hello @LSSI_IT,

@Tardis40 is currently out of the office so I came across the reply and wanted to help you out.

Thank you for providing your product model number, I do notice that this combination of notebook and monitor do not share matching ports; which explains your choice of cable.

Is the HDMI-DisplayPort adapter built into the cable?

What is the manufacturer of the cable?

If the cable and adapter is separate, what are the manufacturers of both?

Try connecting the notebook to another device with an (HDMI-to-HDMI) HDMI input port, to ensure the port is working correctly on the notebook. If the HDMI-to-HDMI connection is successful, the issue most likely exists  in either the cable/adapter or even the monitor.

I look forward to the results.

Hello @LSSI_IT

Thank you for the direct link to the cable!

What were the results of using a HDMI-to-HDMI connection on a different device?

HDMI to HDMI works.

Hello @LSSI_IT,

If the HDMI-to-HDMI works, that indicates that the port on the notebook is functional. That leaves the issue with three possibilities:

1. The DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable is not functional or is not compatible

2. Compatibility between the notebook and the monitor

3. The monitor itself

As the notebook appears to be functioning as normal you may find more specific information by contacting HP Business support for the monitor as well as Belkin support for the cable.

Thanks for the responses.

Being that it is an HP laptop and an HP monitor, we'd hoped that they would be compatible.  If there is a specific cable that HP suggests/recommends, that would be great seeing that these are their products and should work together with the correct components.  Does HP offer such a cable?

I'll also ask business support and see if they have anything else to offer for this problem.

Hello @LSSI_IT,

It appears that HP does offer a HP DisplayPort to HDMI 1.4 adapter, not so much a cable (would require a HDMI-to-HDMI cable for connection).

HP DisplayPort to HDMI 1.4 Adapter

With that being said under the specs tab - compatibility your notebook series is not listed and there are no reviews at all little alone anyone experiencing this type of issue. So there is no data to compare to for functionality.

Let me and the community know how it turns out with business support.
