Did you go down to the section "disable touchpad" on this document http://goo.gl/63WPU ??

yes.  There is no way to disable the pad because it does not know there is one.  the only thing that turns the thing off is the button on the pad.

Hey sassycat49,

Can you please go through what exactly you did to try and resolve this issue, besides the "Hard reset".

I have had the same problem with my Pavilion dv7.  With no mouse attached, the cursor will move all over the screen and randomly select things.  If I attach a mouse and am not even touching the laptop at all, I get the same behavior.  When disable the touchpad completely and just rely on the mouse it seems fine.

Seems like there may be some kind of electronic interference affecting the circuit?  Occasionally, I'll go somewhere else and it disappears; then other places it acts like it has a severe nervous disorder.  This is unacceptable in a new $1400 laptop.  And I haven't heard anything from HP stating that they are working on it.  Very disappointing.  I couldn't recommend HP to anyone at this point.

Hello wsg49,

Your mouse is randomly moving around the screen.

Try to boot into safe mode and see if you’re having the problem.

Turn off the computer.

As you power it back on, tap the F8 key. This will load advanced boot options.

Select safe mode.

If you’re not having the problem in safe mode, you should be able to run  a recovery and correct the error.

Here is link that will show you how to run a recovery.

Here is a link to a number to call HP and see what options they may have to repair the unit for intact it is an electrical problem.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

just reading all this. i have a problem of a cursor moving all over in at least two different programs, when using laptop keyboard, when the laptop is docked and i am using a separate keyboard, AND WHEN I AM NOT TOUCHING THE KEYBOARD OR ANY OTHER PART OF THE LAPTOP. I watched the cursor jump to another part of the document twice while i was in no way touching the computer.

so, how would touchpad sensitivity be the cause of that?????
