I have a pavilion dv6000 laptop. i recently found an older ac adapter and wondered if it would work with my dv6000.
the number on the adapter is dv574/pc628a. it's an hp adapter but when i searched hp.com, it gives no results.
anyone know if i can use this with my laptop?
thanks!

Check the output in volts (usually it is 19v DC) on the adapter against the requirement of the laptop(look on the bottom of the laptop) and see if the plug fits without plugging it in. Usually the only difference will be in wattage. 3.16 amps versus 4 amps or so. The higher wattage units charge the battery to capacity faster without getting hot.
Most ac adapters for HP laptops work on other HP laptops.
I actually use an ac adapter I had from an old COMPAQ laptop as a spare for my Toshiba laptop.

Erico,
Thanks. I can't find the voltage on the laptop (looked all over the bottom). All I see is a service tag with product no, part no, serial no (and a Windows tag). But the adapter I'm using now says output: 18.5v (3.5 A) 65W. The output on the charger i'm hoping to use says output: 18.5v (4.9A) - it also says "non-charge output" 15v (6.0A) and 90W max.

That one should work without any problems. The higher wattage/current adapters are great and more expensive to purchase if a replacement is needed.

Hello,
I have a dv6000 laptop. The AC adapter's cord is starting to break, so I need to get a new one. The replacement part number is HP Spare 394224-001. This part number comes in both 90W (19V, 4.7A), and 65W (18.5V, 3.5A). Will either one work, or will I break my computer?
Thank you for your help!

Look at the original AC adapter and post the information that is on the original adapter here. If the original adapter was a 90 watt unit it is better for battery longevity to replace it with the same wattage unit.
A 65 Watt unit will work but may not charge the battery to its full capacity. It won't break your computer. 🙂 In some instances your OS or the HP Advisor might even give you an error message warning tht the adapter does not have enough capacity.
Best regards,
erico

This a thread from 2011. That is quite a few years ago. My response is quite likely to have been the solution. The original poster just never returned to mark the thread as solved.
There are plenty of other threads that could use some help. I highly recommend using the threads with no response section.
I am going to block new replies to this thread to help keep it and the forum timely.
