Hey vee_ciutz,

I'm sorry you're running into this touchpad issue. Have you tried double-tapping the top left corner of the touchpad?

I would also suggest trying a hard reset as the next quickest and less invasive step. This can sometimes fix strange issues because it drains all of the electricity out of the unit.

1. Shutdown

2. Remove the battery and power cord

3. Press and Hold the Power button down for 10 seconds

4. Reinsert the battery and power cord

5. Turn the computer on and test the touchpad issue again.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any questions 🙂

Hi Zahraa,

I assume you don't have external mouse to follow steps mentioned in early blog and don't wanna borrow someone's 🙂

Check out below steps which shows how to enable touchpad with Keyboard. enable touchpad without external mouse.

Hi,

After you see the 'touchpad off' icon appear, try double-tapping the top left corner of the pad.

Goodify,

Depending on how the TouchPad has been disabled, and assuming you are using a later (newer) version of the Synaptics TouchPad driver software, there are a couple of options to "get it going" again.

See this document - David has explained the on / off toggle - you might next check to see if you have set the TouchPad to go off when you have an exernal USB mouse connected.  The "disconnect the touchpad when using a mouse" would explain why the TouchPad works until you are logged in and then it becomes inactive.

The part of the pdf file you might find of interest is a bit more than half-way down; the section is titled Enable or Disable the TouchPad / ClickPad

Enable or Disable the Touchpad / ClickPad

Commentary

One of the ways you might keep track of the TouchPad status is to set the TouchPad to show up in the Taskbar as an animated icon.

Good Luck!
