HP Pavilion dv6-7020us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Sorry if this is kind of a long start...

Read that a cause for Code 28 can be due to new hardware installed that is causing some incompatability issue, so...

First off, due to harddrive problem, needed to get a new harddrive earlier this year. The current new harddrive is "INTERNAL HARD DRIVES NE SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 ST 1000L 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA (looks cutoff after "1000L" and "SATA", thats all I can put in).

Got Windows 7 x64 bit installed.

Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, PCI Device, PCI Simple Communications Controller, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, and x2 Unkown device (one of them I'm assuming is the fingerprint scanner) all do not work with the error code 28.

The problem, however...

With the help of other computers and familly, I managed to get driver installation files downloaded specifically for Windows 7 x64 bit, moved to a thumbdrive, ran the files on my computer (with the nonworking / responding drivers), they seemed to of ran perfectly fine and appeared to install fine, but none of the listed drivers are working still.

Now currently at a lose of what to do...

Hi:

Here are the links to the drivers you need in the order you posted the devices...just match up the sp##### with the ones on your flash drive.

Ethernet Controller:

This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

File name: sp56167.exe

Network Controller:

This package contains the driver installation package for the Ralink Wireless LAN Controllers in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

File name: sp57538.exe

PCI Device:

This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones.

File name: sp56166.exe

PCI Simple Communications Controller:

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware.

File name: sp56158.exe

SM Bus Controller:  NOTE: Install this driver first and reboot.

This package contains the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver for supported notebook models and operating systems. This utility enables the operating system to show the correct name for the installed Intel hardware in the Microsoft Windows Device Manager.

File name: sp56156.exe

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller:

This package provides the Intel USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The driver enables USB 3.0 devices.

File name: sp56164.exe

ACPI\HPQ0004:

This package provides the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Software (HP 3D Driveguard) for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Software (HP 3D Driveguard) protects the hard drive by "parking the heads" if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

File name: sp61037.exe

USB\VID_138A&PID_0018:

This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications.

File name: sp56403.exe

Wow, I can't thank you enough!

Some of the files I already had and used, which didn't work first time, but this time around they did work oddly. Little concerns with sp56156, already had, replaced everything, got a system message (flag) saying basically it didn't install, but looking at the Device Manager, it did.

Everything is now working, except for one of the Unkown device.

Aside from that, everything seems to be working now!

You're very welcome.

Try manually installing the driver for the 0004 as follows.

Go to the device manager and click on the unknown device needing drivers.

Then click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp61037.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

After coming back from sleeping, it no longer shows it having the error code.

Thank you for everything!

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.
