My laptop was working just fine last night and then this morning it won't start. The only help in the troubleshooting docs here says to hold the power button and Beats button down at the same time to do a hard reset, but mine doesn't have a Beats button. I tried just holding the power button, but that didn't work either. I've got lots of old HP power bricks (in case the problem is the power supply), but the AC connector isn't small enough on any of them. Any other ideas?

The issue was a faulty power cord. I went to Best Buy and, fortunately, they had one I could test with and one I could purchase. They said it should still be under manufacturer's warranty (it is only 7 months old) but, according to HP, my warranty ended last month.

I understand that the HP ENVY TouchSmart 17t-j000 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC does not start and you want to know how to perform a hard reset on the unit.
Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.
And here are a few steps for you in the link to perform a power reset on the unit: Power Reset
