I have a Envy 15-J038tx and sometimes the touchscreen will activate itself as if I am touching the screen when I am not. It keeps doing it in the same exact spot aswell and I don't know why! It is very frustrating.

Hi,

The problem was finally fixed. I called support and they got me to shut the computer down and disconnect everything including the charger. Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds then put the battery back in and start your computer normally. Hope that fixes your problem as well. It was so frustrating for me.

Hi thepez. I don't know that I understand what your symptoms are. Are you are saying your touchscreen wakes from sleep mode without you touching the screen? If not please elaborate on what you mean by 'activating itself'. I also need clarification on your statement that it "keeps doing it in the same exact spot", what exactly do you mean by this?

What version of Windows is installed on your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j038tx Notebook?

If you are using Windows 8, this document will show you how to calibrate your screen. See "Figure 7: Calibrate selection in Tablet PC Settings" at the bottom of the document (don't worry about the symptom description).

Hi,

Sorry for not clarifying enough and for the late reply. What I mean is that it acts as if I myself have used the touchscreen and put my finger on a spot. (If that makes sense) So I will be just doing whatever on the computer (with a mouse) and then all of a sudden the cursor will move and the highlight animation shows like I have touched the screen. And it does this in the same spot every time. Hope it makes sense to you.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I have a HP Envy 17 TS Notebook that is doing the exact same thing.  The only pattern I can tell is so far it has only done it after the lid has been closed for a while and opened back up.

Hello,

I have a HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC that is doing the same thing.  After i close the lid and reopen it  the mouse moves to the upper left hand side of the screen and you can see on the screen where it looks like the screen is being tapped.  I have done a factory restore on it and have done all the updates suggested by the hp support assistant as well as the microsoft updates.

The power and display settings are all at default.

Any suggestions?

Windows 8.1 64-bit

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600

Board 1965 KBC Version 93.49

Bios F.36

Thanks

Tammy

I'm beginning to think we have a defective display.  Can somebody from HP please respond?

I just spent 30 minutes chatting with HP.  My display is defective as well.  I will have to ship it to them next week when I receive the packaging from them.

I've had mine back from repair for about a week now and it hasn't messed up since.  They replaced the touchscreen display.
