I found a solution!

I have been getting this error message for a long time now. When I would start my laptop the cooling fan would rev up and I would get the message. However, if I just hit enter, then fan would calm down and my computer would work just fine (not overheating).

Recently I have been getting the error message and the fan would continuously run at full speed (really loud) all the time I was using it. The computer was obviously not overheating, but it was really annying for me to have the fan blowing full speed all the time.

So, I went to www.support.hp.com. You can download a program that will automatically recommend software upgrades. It recommended 7 upgrades for me, including an HP Cool Sense upgrade and a BIOS upgrade. I went ahead and installed all of the upgrades, but I think it was the BIOS one that fixed the problem.

Now my fan runs at a normal speed and I don't get the error message anymore. I wish I would have known about this sooner! I hope it helps other people not have to deal with this as long as I had to! Good luck.

So i recently got this problem. I freshly reinstalled windows 7 on my dv6 notebook. Completed all updates, upgraded to windows 10 and did the updates once more. The notebook worked fine for a day or two, then when i turned it on the 90B error came up. I dissasembled the notebook and cleaned the fan as best i could but it did not help. The fan actually runs when i turn on the notebook but very slowly compared to how it used to. What im wondering is will a fan replacement actually fix this problem, or is it something more serious. I assue its nothing to do with software since windows 10 updates all software automatically. Also i was unable to find any updates for my particular model in the drivers section of the hp website. Could it be that there is an issue with the motherboard? Warranty is finished on this notebook. Any help appreciated.

Got the same error on startup. Did lots of research. Updated BIOS, did a hard reset and updated all softwares. Called up HP and worked on almost everything. Still no luck.

Finally found a solution.

Its 99% to do with the Fan hardware and you will have to either do it yourself or get it done from a technical expert.

I used a video on you tube to open the HP Envy 15 that I have and got the fan cleaned. There was a minor dust that was obstructing it from rotating.

On cleaning the fan worked just flawless.

The problem is that to keep the laptop slimmer the Fan casing clearence given is minimum and even a little dust can block the passage.

Good luck!
