I have found the the expansion port 3 cable on my docking bay is far too short to comfortably connect to my laptop. Is there any where that I could get an extension cable for this? I've looked all over the internet and have not managed to find anything like this, but am desperately in need of some way to make the cord longer.

Ahh! Ok I follow now. Its going to be difficult to source one of these cables. There is none located in the HP store that I am aware of. I did a some searching and found a company that will make custom cables, which is one option. Here is their link: Custom Computer Cables
I looked through eBay and didnt find anything on there that would work. How long of an extension do you need?
Thanks,
Sean

Hey X_Z,
What laptop is this that you are referring to? I understand you are looking for an extension cord but is this for a USB port?
Thanks

HP DV7-1245dx laptop, xb3000 docking bay. I'm not looking for a usb extender; I'm looking for a way to make the expansion port 3 cable that connects the base to the laptop longer. I hope that this request is making sense...

Is this the cable your talking about?

No, I'm afraid not. The cable I am speaking of fits in this port on the computer:
I am looking for a cable that plugs in to this port on one end and the docking bay's cable at the other, so that the entire connection allows for greater distance.

Much thanks for the link! To answer your question, I was hoping to land one a few (at least 3) feet long, but one a few (no fewer than 10) inches long would work well enough. Along those same lines, do you know at what cable length that data integrity begins to become an issue? I know there are certain communications protocols that can only be transmitted over cables of certain lengths before portions of the data begin to disappear in the transport process.

I would say follow the guideline that is similar to other data transfer cables. I wouldnt stretch it any longer then 3 feet or you may run into problems. Shorter is always better though. If 2 feet would work, then I would go with that.

Hi all. I have a similar need related to the "extension port 3":
I want to buy a new HP laptop and I would like to re-use my xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station (KG462AA) which can only be interfaced through the extension port 3.
So, I need to know which new laptop models have an "expansion port 3" allowing to connect the docking station, or, in alternative, if does any interfacing cable to connect the docking station exist.
thanks!
