You should definitely try the solution in the advisory I posted; since your symptoms are the same ones that advisory addresses.

Thanks.  The HP service desk tells me that R&D is now working the issue trying to find a solution.

HP R&D couldn't solve this issue and they referred the problem to Intel.  Intel has identified the issue as being inherent in the chipset.  Intel did send me a fix, but it's not a real fix as all it does it reset the USB port and allow you to forgo the reboot when the file copy does hang.  This issue affects any laptop/tablet using the Thunderbolt chipset; so, Intel has really f**cked up.
