I have exactly the same problem, bought hp pavilion-g6 a few days ago. At first all worked well, i only had a problem with cable ethernet. I got it to work and now i can't get my wifi on. if i press f12 then my computer says airplane mode has turned on/off. And the wifi button always light orange. What to do?
Sorry my bad english, i'm living in Estonia.

Hello Romjo.
You indicate you solved your issue with the wifi but just in case others see this post I'd like to post the steps. The wireless button works a little differently in Windows 8 than in previous versions of Windows. To resolve the issue try the following.
- From the Metro view type "wireless."
- You should then see "settings" on the right. Select this and it will populate many wireless related items on the left side of the screen.
- Select "wireless" from this section.
- You should see a few options. One being "Airplane mode" and the others being an on/off switch for bluetooth and/or wireless.
- Ensure that both of these are turned on while airplane mode is off.
- Save changes and reboot.
Have a lovely day! 🙂

In this scenario, if you turn off Airplane mode before the wireless devices are initialized, the devices stay off even though Airplane mode is off.
solution:
- Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, or press the Windows logo key+C.
- Tap or click Settings.
- Tap or click Change PC Settings.
- Tap or click Wireless.
- Tap or click an affected device to turn it on again.
