I have never used a forum before but here goes. I have an HP dv7-4070us Laptop which would not start. Eventually it gave me the option to start in Startup Repair, I let the computer alone for approximately 15 minutes and all I got was a Blue Screen with readiation appearing from the top center. Not the tradional 'Blue Screen of Death'. Shut the computer by holding down the power switch. Turned the computer on and pressed F2. Ran the Startup test and it failed. It instructed me to go to hp.com/go/techcenter/startup and here I am. I am not technically oriented so unless it is a simple fix I would like to get authorization to return it to HP for repair. Any help would be appreciated.

My wife's laptop had this error. I could hear that the drive was spinning and therefore at least functional.
I removed the Harddrive from the laptop (very easy to do on HP, unlike dell, thanks HP)
I connected the drive to my HP desktop (If you need this explained you prob will need to google that process)
I booted my desktop which detected the new external drive and ran chkdisk on it and located and isolated the bad sectors)
I then copied her "critical" files to my desktop and ordered a new hard drive for the laptop.
Once the drive was back in the laptop it would boot, but obviously this harddrive needs to be replaced longterm.
