Hi,

I recently switched to a 9470m Elitebook folio - but the fan noise is killing me when docked in and standing on the desk near me. Is there any possibility to reduce the noise?

Already done:

- BIOS update

- BIOS setting "fan always on on AC power" deactivated

Windows 7 x64 Enterprise

Already tried speedfan but it seems that it couln`t detect the fan.

thanks

Its either a faulty fan or a faulty thermal sensor on the board. You need to call tech support to get a case loged to get the issue resolved.

Unfortunately, we recognized this problem on several model.
I'm afraid : this is a design problem (quality of the fan ?).
I hope that a future bios update will solve this problem.
I think it's unacceptable on a high-end machine like that !
The direct competitor (Thinkpad X1 Carbon) is completely silent!!
This situation is very frustrating.

If you haev multiple computers with the same problem then just get one unit serviced and see if the issue resolves. If it does, then let tech support know so a mass service could be conducted or perhaps a replacement. Conditions, however may apply based on the country process.

I can not imagine that this problem is not listed in a HP Support Knowledge Base ?

We have the same problem, we just bought 2 HP 9470m and both of them has this annoying high frequent noise when the fan runs.

I hope this is a faulty fan or something, because the machine is useless for us attending business meetings and working with on a daily basis.

I opened a case with HP support the same day we received them and we are still waiting to hear from level 2 support on how to proceed with this issue.

Hi kekarlsen,

would be great if you keep us updated on this. I didn`t create any cases yet as I think this is fail by design and not "repairable" but anyway interesting to know what HP`s statement is.

thanks

Yes, I'll update here as soon as I hear from HP.

I have my doubts too about this being repairable problem, but I sure hope so, because then this is not an Enterprise High-End machine that should have the EliteBook brand.

Except this noise issue, I think that everything else is top quality! As we are used to from all the other previous Elitebook models we have bought.

Could you provide the case number, I'd like to have a look and see if I can get any more information on this issue.
