Have to kind of wait and see long term, but this appears to have fixed this issue on two of my 9470m's.

Thanks, the fan utility looks like it's going to be our only option, other than returning the unit altogether. What a frustrating problem, because other than that it's a really nice laptop.

this will reduce the noise of fan but is not enough.
Download this second software
https://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
This will desactivate turbo boost in settings of software
And finnaly put your laptop in "balanced mode''
