Before I upgraded to WIndows 10 my fingerprint scanner was operating properly. I used it to log into the laptop. After the WIndows 10 upgrade and updating of my Norton 360 Premier to a windows 10 compatible version I had an error in the device manager for the fingerprint scanner. I uninstaled the driver (the device manager stated that the registry entries were corrupted). After about four hours of trying to find the correct driver on the HP site I was able to install Validity Sensors Driver version 4.4.232.0 dated 8/18/12 which recognized the device. However, it now under the "Events/Information" tab has the following error message: "Device USB\VID_138A&PID_0050\2012482178ab requires further installation."
The fingerprint scanner is completely inoperative: no light come on at bootup.
I would appreciate any help that anyone could offer in troubleshooting this problem. The fingerprint scanner was a nice feature.
Thanks
Bill

Hello @Bill38,
Thank you for the quick reply!
Did you try finding the drivers for you Fingerprint reader, using the link above? You can also use the Windows Update, to check for drivers that will work with Windows 10.
If you are having trouble installing the drivers, you can use the tool at the following site:
Open the Windows Update troubleshooter
Please review the following document as well, and let me know if it helps:

I hope this helps.

Hello @Bill38,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums!
I read your post about the Fingerprint Reader, and wanted to help!
To start, can you provide me with the Product Number of your notebook? Here is a link you can use that will help you find your Model and Product Number: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
In the meantime, try disabling the Norton 360 Premier, and see if you can access the Fingerprint Reader afterwards. You can also try checking the following site for Windows 10 drivers that will work with your system:
HP Products - Where Do I Find Windows 10 Drivers and Software for My Model?
If you are still having trouble, then try using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10
Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated.
Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.
Have a great day!
