DV7-7115nr
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The software page for the DV7-7115nr laptop lists two firmware updates for what appear to be for the HP BD CMB UJ160 SATA CD Drive.

Both are listed for the optical drive, but they appear to possibly be for different cd drives.

And I'm not sure which of the files applies to the cd drive that I have: HP BD CMB UJ160 SATA CD Drive

HP Support Assistant reported that my cd drive had firmware version 1.0, so would like to upgrade it if appropriate.

The two files are listed in the firmware section at http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-7100-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-serie...

PLDS Optical Drive Firmware Update

1.9MB

Release details

Released: Nov 8, 2012

Version DS-8A8SH KH63

(updated Dec 9, 2015 ???)

and

Panasonic Optical Drive Firmware Update

2.0MB

Release details

Released: Nov 8, 2012

Version UJ8B1 H.04

(also updated Dec 9, 2015 ???)

Do I install both of those firmware updates?  Or is only one of them for my system?  They are also almost similar enough to where I suspect they might even be the same update but with different descriptive info.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hello @John2k,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I have read your post and understand that you are looking to update the firmware for the cd drive in your HP dv7-7115nr. I have researched the issue and found the maintenance and service guide.

HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide

As found on page 3, there are a few different models of optical drives used for this notebook. The updates found on the drivers page do not appear to match the one installed in your PC.

I looked online for an updated driver for that particular part but could not find one. As long as all of the windows updates are completed and the device manager says the drivers are up to date, then it should be okay.

Updating the drivers

1. Click the windows key + R

2. Type "devmgmt.msc" and then click "OK"

3.  Click the "View" tab, then on "Show hidden devices"

4. Click on the little "+" beside "Disk Drivers"

5. Right-click on the drive, then click properties

6. Go to the "Driver" tab

7. Click on "Update Driver"

If you are having issues with the drive, here is a very helpful document:

Microsoft - Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs

If the document did not help you resolve the issue, try restoring the BIOS and then check for windows updates.

Thank you, I look forward to your response with the outcome.
