The Forward slash or Question Mark key on my Pavilion g6 laptop is not working properly. I get a 't' and 'T' respectively

It does not have anything to do with the French keyboard.

I can print [ { ]}' \"| ;:,<>.+|\  but not the forward slash or Question Mark when I press the shift and the forward slash key together.

Does anyone know what to do

Hey Impi,

I would suggest removing any keyboard languages in control panel that you are not using. This will prevent the system from having access to the keyboard and changing it on you. I know with Windows 8 you can easily change it by mistake by pressing Space + Windows Key.

I've never heard of an inverted keyboard before so I'm not sure if this is a regular thing or just a nick-name for this kind of issue. :smileyembarrassed:

Anyway, glad to hear things are up and running! 🙂

Hello Impi,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you are having issues with your keyboard typing "t" and "T" instead of "/" and "?".

I agree that it would have nothing to do with a French keyboard, as a French keyboard would put "é" and "É".

Let's make sure you only have the English (US) keyboard set, assuming that's what you use/need.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Clock, Language, and Region
  4. Click Region and Language
  5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab
  6. Click Change keyboards...
  7. On the General tab, make sure English (United States) - US is selected in the Default input language field.
  8. Click on any other keyboards in the Installed services list
  9. Click Remove
  10. Repeat for all other non-English (United States) keyboards.

You can also try resetting the keyboard by adding a non English (United States) keyboard, setting it as the default and deleting the English (United States) keyboard. Once removed, re-add it and remove the other keyboard.

You may also want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard hardware. You can do this in Device Manager by right-clicking and choosing Uninstall on the keyboard, which can be found in the Keyboards field of Device Manager. Once uninstalled click View at the top and then Scan for hardware changes. A reboot may be required for this to take effect.

It would help to know which product and operating system you are using.

I look forward to your reply!

Hi! Thank you for the prompt reply. The problem resolved yesterday after I tinkered around and restarted the system. I was also starting to get i when I pressed 1 and then realized that it was the inverted !

I looked into what you suggested and my default keyboard in the General Tab is English (Canada) - US. Then down in the installed services, it shows:

Keyboard - US, Canadian French, Canadina Multilingual.

Other - Ink Correction (64 bit) {Not sure what that is}

Do you also know anything about inverted keyboards and how to get rid of it if you get it?
