HP Notebook - 15-f233wm (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Getting mixed information about this particular laptop. It has a Celeron CPU and came with 1 memory slot with a 4GB chip. Some say you can upgrade to 8GB and some say 4GB is the max. I'm curious if anyone has gotten this up to 8GB and if the module type is limited to a 1Rx8? I purchased an 8GB chip but it is 2Rx8 and it doesn't boot.

Hi:

This forum member seems to have the same issue you are having...

Neither of you have mentioned the brand or part number of the memory chip you installed, so it is hard to determine what the problem could be.

Chapter 1 page 1 of the maintenance and service guide indicates that 1 x 8 GB of memory is supported.

I always recommend to forum members that if you don't buy the exact memory part number listed in the service manual, then buy the recommended Crucial memory since they guarantee compatibility...

Apologies for forgetting to list what I had tried to install. The module I tried is

TEAMGROUP Elite DDR3L 8GB Single 1600MHz PC3-12800 CL11 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.35V SODIMM 204-Pin Laptop Notebook PC Computer Memory Module Ram Upgrade - TED3L8G1600C11-S01

It came from Amazon. The laptop turns on, but no power to the screen or anything else. Tested the module in another laptop and it works fine. I updated to the latest BIOS as well and it didn't make a difference.

The memory met the specs.

I have mixed single and dual ranked memory in my notebooks in the past and had no issues.

All I can recommend is to return the Teamgroup chip and buy the Crucial chip from Amazon...

I will see if my customer wants to try that. Thank you for your responses. If they decide to do it, and it works, I will post back with the results.
