Me - As I'm not sure whether this will work as I'm outside and not in front of my laptop.. If anyone can try this, please do. And let us know whether this works or not. Thanx! 😊

Hello Nazrae, be carfull before ask to use this driver to other, it's a downgrad: HP Business Desktop ME 11.x Firmware. Maybe not for all type of computer! Downgrad Bios Driver is risky.

@plopix

Thank you for pointing that out because my laptop is at home and I didn't manage to test it out. But if it is what you said it is, then the HP Tech in India are also stumped of this debacle for suggesting to install the driver which is actually downgrading the BIOS..

I sent an email back to Priya (HP Tech) along with the software details by which I've already tried this before and it does not work. The driver is an old version of HP 3D DriveGuard v6.0.41.1..

Email to Priya HP Tech sent recently;

Hi Priya,

TITLE:  HP 3D DriveGuard Software

VERSION:  6.0.41.1

DESCRIPTION:

This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

PURPOSE:  Critical

SoftPaq NUMBER:  SP77869

SUPERSEDES:SP77047,None

EFFECTIVE DATE:  10/11/2016

CATEGORY:  Driver - Storage

SSM SUPPORTED:  Yes

These are the details of the said driver you suggested to install. Please be advised that this version v6.0.41.1 does not work. I have tried this before and already escalated it in HP Forum to take further action on finding the solution.

Me - Apparently, they are stumped as we are!

@Nazrae @quilava2191

I would be hesitant to use any of the downgraded drivers suggested at this point. I  reported before end of the  day on Friday all of the details of the error and troubleshooting done here so it could be passed on to appropriate team.

Our Administrator won't be back in until Monday so it will be at least then before I hear anything about the progress made by engineers working the issue. I doubt that Phone/chat support will have updates on it either before then.

@CherylG

No prob Cheryl.. I've sent a reply to HP Customer Care and inform them of the incompatibility and advised them of the Windows 10 Cumulative Update as the cause.

Let me preface this post by saying that I like HP, I have had many HP products, inc pc's.....So the purpose of this post is not to bash but to offer my advise and or recommendations moving forward...

A good manager is proactive, not reactive.  That said, I question why HP didn't have this challenge worked out prior to the last windows update.   Don't they have access to the Windows Insider program, in which to can take updates before they are released to the public, and play with it in the "sandbox" and dterminme what will work and what won't?

As a result of this last Windows update and now the 3D DriveGuard not working, there are a lot of frustrated, yet loyal HP customers who could question HP's loyalty to their customers...

I am just saying......

I very much agree with Paul.  I also like HP and recommend their laptops and desktops to many of my friends.  HP Support should have had access to the Microsoft updates that cause the problem with HP 3D Drive Guard.  This obviously slipped through the cracks.  I hope HP Support will take a close look at this mess and implement processes within the organization to prevent this type of thing from happening again.

Contacted by HP Support yesterday given same advice we have been using for over a weak seemed totally clueless if you asked me, i take it customer support was a major cutback only option given was removed windows 10 update which fixes the issue but as we cant block windows 10 updates from downloading that works for a few hrs only ???

@Snake1968

Tried it on Nov 17th, 2017 and yes, it works. By uninstalling 2017-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for amd64-based Systems (KB4048955), the error message was gone after reboot (used my laptop as a guinea pig) but Windows will automatically redownload the update unless you are running Windows 10 Professional by which you can halt the Windows Update download process. I however, cannot do that with my Windows 10 Home Single Language as the Group Policy (gpedit.msc) is disabled by Microsoft.

Still, I wouldn't advise you to tinker with Windows Group Policy unless you know what your're doing. I'm used to tinker with Active Directory/ Group Policy etc. on Windows NT and Windows 2000 long long time ago..

The best option, is to wait for the update as SP82228 (HP 3D DriveGuard v6.0.44.1) failed.

I'm sure CherylG will give us good news soon..

To Block a windows 10 update go to the following link:

and down load the troubleshooting package after deleting the unwanted update.

Hope this Helps.

Cheers
