My experience is the following:
I uninstalled the HP3D drive guard since I obtained the message that this sowtware could not work with fall craetors update.
This morning I installed the sp82755 as it is recommended. I rebooted the laptop. Not annoying message but in programs and Characteristics HP 3d Drive guard is not listed neither in apps in windows settings.
So I installed sp82228, rebooted the laptop and again I received the message "this software doesn`t work with windows", I saw in programs and characteristics HP 3d drive guard listed.
So I uninstalled sp 82228 again, rebooted computer and reinstalled again sp82755 and rebooted. No annoying message but HP 3d drive guard is not listed in programs and characterístics, neither in apps in windows settings.
¿Do I have HP 3d drive guard installed?, I don't know.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Here's the sequence that worked for me:
1. Installed SP82228
2. Rebooted - got annoying message
3. Installed SP82755
4. Rebooted - no annoying messages.
5. Checked Windows Task Manager and found HP 3DDGService running.
So, I believe the order of installation is important for this situation. SP82228 followed by SP82755.
SP82755 effectively appears to be a "supplement" or "post-req" to SP82228.
I hope that helps!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving @Buildyourpc
Anyway, as for me, I installed SP82755 after I downloaded it as I've uninstalled SP82228 yesterday. Works ok. I can see the service running in Task Manager..

Thankyou very much Buildyour, you are right, the order of installation is important.
I have followed the sequence you propose and voila!, HP 3d guard drive is installed and appears in program and characteristics and no more annoying message.

I agree order of installation is the key.
Additional Check on DriveGuard installation is to select Windows Key + R and type control panel.
Then go to Windows Mobility Center (under Hardware and Sound) if viewing by category.
There you will find "Customized by HP ... Protection Enabled ... HP 3D DriveGuard".
Thanks to all who helped resolve this problem.

Started getting the message from Microsoft Windows support upon reboot.
"Your app doesn't work with Windows 10" on a HP envy. "
No indication what App in the message. I seem to recall with the update it mentioning the DriveGuard was not compatible. But I checked Windows Mobility Center as M209603 stated to do and it is listed as there. Is there anywhere else I can check to make sure it is actually running? Under Task manager I now do see the HP DriveGuard Tile, (but I didn't find it a day ago, perhaps my own error), but no CPU use, just 2.6 memory. But right click on it and and "details" and it shows it running. So I guess I didn't lose it? But am not sure what the App message may mean. The Virtual Agent support on that page is useless. I have not downloaded anything manually since the update. Have there been updates by HP or MS that may have corrected it automatically that I may not have noticed?

Sh_Lee ... While I can not know what App does not work I do know than Microsoft Windows Update will install a slightly different driver for the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (accelerometer) than the one installed by sp822228 even though they both are numbered 6.0.22.1. Therefore, you should do a windows update. After reboot you could then look carefully at the apps list, if no anomaly shows , then type event viewer in search box and then inspect sub folder windows logs and then view applications for the error.
Regarding HD3DDGService cpu use, I would not expect the cpu to have much use as it would only be involved when the accelerometer ouput exceeded a threshold, and then would command hd drive park.
Good Luck!

After Windows Update installed KB4056892 (OS Build 16299.192), on Jan. 4, 2018, my driveguard started working normally again.

Latest update is HP sp83846 which installs HP 3D DriveGuard version 6.0.45.1. HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (Accelerometer) Driver 7.0.1.1 is installed with Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 update).
