As the title suggests I would like to know what is the maximum processor my HP 530 can use please?

I currently have an Intel Celeron M CPUb 420  @ 1.60GHz and would like to purchase something a little more powerful.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Check again with CPUZ, here

If it was 945,you have socket M, the maximum C2D is T7600.

I recommend you to buy T7200, cheap on ebay, you will not noticed the different among T7200, T7400 and T7600 for regular office applications.

Please be aware, processor upgrade will void your warranty!

OK, tried CPUID and received the following results:

Specification        Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU        420  @ 1.60GHz
Package            Socket 479 mPGA (platform ID = 5h)

Northbridge        Intel i943/940GML rev. 03
Southbridge        Intel 82801GHM (ICH7-M/U) rev. A1

So do you still recommend the T7200 ?

Thanks again for your help.

I think you need to stay with the 533 fsb cpus which greatly limits your options. Any cpu with the same socket architecture will fit but I fear that HP made the Celeron motherboards without Intel Speedstep support so your upgrade may not be a good idea.

Oh, OK 😞  That's not great news but for thanks for the information all the same.

So I can't really upgrade apart from maybe to a 1.733 which seems kind of pointless.

Would you be able to confirm if the maximum RAM my system can take is indeed 2GB please? SiSoft Sandra reported 4GB but I can't see that being correct.

Thanks again.

Huffer may right, you are not using 945 chipset. I have no experience with chipset lower than 945.

However, the possibility is there, see notebookreview forum post here

I'm not encouraging you, however if you did it, you might be the first one 🙂

I'm withdrawing my recomendation for T7200, the best I can suggges is buy a new notebook, it is way chepers now adays and with new fastest hardware.

Donate the current one to another that do not need high speed of processor for their applications

Hi,

I'm using a HP 530 Notebook with the 945GME chipset and Core 2 Duo T5200 @ 1.6 GHz processor installed by default.

Is an upgrade to Core 2 Duo T9900 or T7800 possible?

Hello!

Maybe a t7200 would fit the Hp 530 with the 945 chipset? It has the same FSB (667) and the same socket (479 mBGA).

What do you think?
