I have bought above mentioned notebook and I cannot run fn brightness keys. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with no success then i installed Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and everthing was the same.

I have installed HP Quick Launch Software and HP Software Framework but these buttons didn't work.

I have tested with 4 other laptops HP 650 but no success. :Crying:

PS: All other FN keys are working!

Have you tried updating the graphics driver found here?

Some consumer model notebooks share the brightness key function with the video driver, but not certain if this is common on probooks.

You could try the business support forums found here.

I installed the driver you followed but no success again.

I found this issue. It's the same as my problem.

It absolutely amazes me that this issue seems to be posted for every model of HP laptop.  I have two HP laptops -  one for work and a personal laptop.  Both have chronic issues with brightness controls.  So have the previous HP laptops I've had for work.

When I searched for this issue via Google, threads came up for all makes and models, new and old, etc etc.  How has this issue persisted through every iteration of HP laptops?  As an  engineer, I can only logically assume that HP does not consider this to be a large enough issue to warrant the time and capital required to investigate and address.

I understand that all laptops will have FN keys that falter from continuous use.  This issue, however, rears its ugly head after only 3 months of ownership.  Either poor design, poor quality control, or both.

Next personal laptop will have to come from another manufacturer.  Also, my IT department reports this is "chronic, solution undeveloped, not considered emergency/critical".  Which means, everyone has this issue, but we cannot fix it until it's time to gradually migrate everyone over to Lenovo laptops.

Please check your bios version by pressing ESC key on laptop boot up and then press F10 key (BIOS Setup) and look for BIOS Version, if it is F34, F35 or F36, the solution is to downgrade your bios to version F.22 (Recommended or F12 (Initial Bios Release), hope they fix this in next bios releases.

PLEASE DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLY DOING IT, YOU CAN BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR LAPTOP! BEST GO TO A HP AUTHORIZED SERVICE TO DO THIS PROCEDURE FOR YOU!
