Hello.
I wanted to run HP Battery Check to find out how my battery was doing. But it does not recognize my battery.
My battery seems to be getting worse lately, and it does not hold up a charge as long as it used to do.
I downloaded the latest HP Support Assistant (5.1.10.7), and like I said. It does not recognize my battery.
Any bright ideas?
Edit:
HP DV4-1210 running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Hi,
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here. When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again. Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook.
Next, download, install and run the latest version of the HP Battery Check Utility, on the link below.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49129.exe
Does this work correctly and does it indicate any fault with the battery?
Best wishes,

Thanks alot.
That did the job.
At first I tried to install latest Battery Check. But it told me to use Support Assistant. I uninstalled Support Assistant, did a restart, and tried to install Battery Check again. The Battery Check installation kept asking for a .msi-file (HP Battery Check.msi) when I tried to run it after installation. So I had to reinstall Support Assistant. But now at least I get a result.
The battery still has 66% charge capacity.

Hi,
You're welcome. I guess the results do show the battery has passed its best, so it depends what level of capacity you can accept before replacing it becomes a necessity.
All the best,
DP-K

It may save some time for other users to note that this procedure does not work under Win7 pro32 on a mini 5102, even if the HP Battery Check Utility is installed and run as administrator in XP or Vista compatibility mode. It always gives Status - Unknown (93).
The only solution I found was to install the full HP Support Assistant (maybe that is what actually solved the 94 problem for the OP). In ver 5.1.10.7 the embedded Battery Check then works. Unfortunately Support Assistant is a much bigger load, so wastes some resources if you do not need the other features. Also it installs by default various scheduled actions that you may not want, including defragment (bad news on an SSD). You have to go through several set-up keys under various sub-components to find and if necessary alter these actions.
At least this version of HP Support Assistant seems to have fixed the earlier clash with Windows Help (described in another thread).

Go to the following folder and delete all of the files in the folder. This should correct the problem. HP is aware of this issue and will release a new version of Battery Check in HP Support Assistant to correct the problem.
C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\Temp

If you are using HPSA, go to Maintain and run an Analysis. This should update Battery Check to the latest version.
You can check the verison by clicking on Help/About. It should be version 4.0.17.0.
Let me know if this corrects the problem

I have this issue with my dv7. sp49129 returns the following error message: "The wizard was interrupted before HP Battery Check could be completely installed. The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again." Which I have done numerous times, but to no avail. Suggestions?

You probably have Hp Support Assistant installed. If so, all you need to do to update Battery Check is go to Maintain and refresh your status. Battery Check will update automatically if you have enabled HPSA to check for updates.
