hi guys. i have messed up my BIOS and my dm1 isnt working at all. I really need a specific file from people having this Insyde BIOS version : F.19
the file will be stored in the 100MB HP_Tools Partition.
the file location is :
:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\03387.sig (03387F19.sig)
if your HP_Tools isnt showing up in My Computer then you can go to Run and type "diskmgmt.msc"
When the window opens and is loaded, you can right-click on the HP_Tools partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths...
Then click on Add, and then select any letter, and it will show up in My Computer!
I need it ASAP because my laptop is dead without that 256 BYTE file!
thanks in advance!!?

i think i've managed to solve my problem at least, the problem may have been the hard drive ,
the power was cut during restory process caused what appeared to be a bios problem
any way
1) i disconnected the hard disk from pc,
2) then started the pc , i found that i can access bios options
3) changed boot order to make CD rom as first boot
4) then reattached the hard drive and booted from some tools CD (hierens) , also i can install fresh copy of windows 8 or whatever i want
hope this leads to a solution or any help

Version F.19 is available for download from the Drivers & software downloads link in the web support portal for your notebook. Extract the softpaq and you should be able to get the file that you need.
The following image shows the contents of the BIOS update softpaq. The top file is the .bin BIOS file. That should be the one you need. Your notebook has the UEFI environment which based on your thread infi is no longer working for you. You can also try the Windows key + B method to flash the BIOS from a FAT32 formatted usb thumbdrive with the BIOS bin file on the root.

erico

Thanks for your response, that's all correct but the caps lock just flashes with power+win+b.
Testing on a similar laptop which boots HP_TOOLS it states we need a signature file which we don't have!?
"The selected BIOS image was not available. You may select an alternative image file, or cancel the update.
This system's BIOS ID is F.19
A signature file must also be available in the same directory."
We need to obtain the relevant .sig file and rename it to whatever the system needs it to be called.
We have also tried dumping the bios from the working laptop with C:\SWsetup\SP60868\InsydeFlash.exe bios.fd /g but this also requires a signature file.
Thanks

If your warranty period is over and you don't mind using ummm.. 😉 BIOS utility programs, head on over to BIOS Mods forum.
That is just one of a number of BIOS modding forums where you can find a solution for this. There are utilities that can generate the .sig file that you need from the softpaq file.
Take a read of theBIOS Mod.com sticky on insyde BIOS recovery.

I've had a look at the Phoenix Tool v2.14 with hewprsa to generated a sig file however the BIOS file downloaded from HP cannot be read, and a dump of the working laptops BIOS does not include a signature and so one isn't extracted or created properly.
If HP could please provide a BIOS with the Sig file I would be able to get this sorted once and for all.
Many thanks !!

Many thanks for your help but I have tried all of those suggestions and still nothing, this laptop is still in warranty but I don't want to send it off for repair over something that should be a simple task of reflashing the BIOS. I'm adamant that it has something to do with the signature file that the UEFI tools complained about on the working laptop.
Thanks

Just how did you "messed up my BIOS" as you stated in the first post? Was it a failed BIOS update?
Have you tried cloning the HP_Tools partition to a usb flashdisk, marking it as active and booting from it? That will give you use of the Advanced Diagnostics where the BIOS Management section is. If you can do that then try the suggestion in the next sentence.
Have you tried to rollback BIOS to a previous version?
That is one of the options for when the BIOS is borked and access to BIOS Management is possible.

erico

I downloaded the BIOS update from HP's website, while running it froze half way through and now my notebook won't boot up.
I only have the HP_TOOLS partition created from "HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment" (sp61101.exe), because of this method to create the tools I removed the partition from the notebooks when I first got them, however the original partition probably had "working" previous and current BIOS files. Before anyone says anything yes I wish I hadn't.
The HP_TOOLS partition created from sp61101 does not include any files in the previous, current and new BIOS folders. Copying the downloaded BIOS into these folders and giving it the name of 03387.BIN does not work as it states a signature file must also be available in the same directory - which I do not have.
Thanks

I have sent a message about your issue to my internal HP contacts. I will update the message. BIOS updates that cause bad things to happen are usually given a higher status.. You should get a response within a reasonable time, now that you explained what happened. You should have mentioned this in the first post and saved us some time. 😉
What was the specific BIOS update that caused this?
Best regards,
erico
