By internet connection item, I am referring to the thing that looks like this:https://www.google.com/search?q=internet%20connection%20hp%20symbol&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg%3ACRIE-edzdxSk...

Well, unfortunately that is not possible.  Most of the time, I would say probably 80-95% of the time, the Wi-Fi toggle is missing, because the adapter is either diasbaled or missing completely, the latter not occuring that often, but often enough.  Going into Settings and to Network, there is not even a Wi-fi tab many times.  This has been a major issue and a simple workaround like turning the Wi-fi on and off again is not going to do it, it's not a satisfactory solution and it's not possible anyways.  Invariably, I have to mess with the adapter, when it is still there, i.e. disabling and re-enabling it, or enabling it, because it is disabled for some reason.  I have updated the driver for the adapter and that did not fix the problem, so I rolled it back.  Now, a few days ago, I was messing with it, and some troubleshooting program within Windows took over and I wanna say, it saw that the adapter was disabled or something and it re-enabled it and I don't think there has been a problem since, but that has only been a few days now and the computer doesn't get used that much because of the issue so, only time wil tell.

I am a MacBook Pro user, and I don't miss Windows one iota and I have never looked back.  Now, granted, I have had issues with my 2011 MBP here and there, but I am usually able to fix those issues.  Windows is a trainwreck in my opinion and Windows 10 is no better than any of the rest, with the exception of XP, which I run in a Virtual Machine on my Mac.

And just to add to my last post as an update, my son just tried to use the laptop a little while ago and of course, no wi-fi.  No Wi-Fi toggle anywhere and going to Network settings, no Wi-Fi tab either.  Have to go to the adapter setting and the adapter is disabled.  Enabled it and it works again fine.  This is totally unacceptable....  Not sure if this is a problem with this particular HP laptop or Windows in general....

Wrestled with this problem on a football sunday afternoon. I was able to majorly improve my connectivity by logging in to my router and changing a setting 802.11 AC cable modem and enabled band steering under the menu for Wireless - Performance Enhancements.

Interesting.  I went there, wifi is on; but one of settings say:

"Allow computer to turn off device to save power."

My laptop often loses wifi and does not recover it after going to sleep / hibernate.  So I decided to

"Disallow" that and hopefully it helps.

By the way it is a new 2016/2017 HP Envy 13t 2in1

Thanks for the thought to post that .

Been there, tried that, changing the power save setting did not solve the issue. This computer has since been taken to a repair shop where it was looked at and we were told that they could not find any issue with said computer. After a few weeks now, the computer is exhibiting the same issue again. Just yesterday my son tried to use it and could not connect to the internet. Looked at the adapter and it was disabled.  Such a tremendous PITA. The only thing that the repair guy did say though that was even remotely helpful and insightful was that computers that came installed with Win 7 and were upgraded to Win 10 have had this issue.  And that is the case with this computer.

After finishing reading all the prior posts, it seems in many cases that something is causing it to reset itself as 'disabled.'

Would be nice for such instances if someone could write a batch file to click and run to re-enable that switch, plus make sure all the other common switchables are set optimally.

E.g., refresh the TCP/IP switches;  enable the wifi device;  turn off power saving in wifi device;  turn on max power in battery saving mode; turn off the wifi and turn it back on; etc.

Beyond me though.

Yes, I would agree swuzy, there has to be something that is triggering the adapter to become disabled, just have no inkling what. And naturally, the situation does not occur constantly. Usually after a restart of Windows, the problem will vanish for a while and then rear it's ugly head again out of nowhere.  But I should not have to rely on restarting my computer for something to work reliably.
