Can anyone tell me what is the maximum ram capacity on this laptop??? and which ram to buy for upgrade?

second what is the difference between 6th generation and 7th generation laptop they look exactly the same but I need specs difference thank you.

Never heard of 6th/7th gen laptop.  The CPU is on Intel's 7th generation Kaby Lake.  6th gen is skylake.  Not much difference between the two.  Think of it more like iPhone 6 to iPhone 6s.  7th gen cpu handles graphics better and has native usb 3.1 support. Outside of that, not much difference.  8th gen CPU (coming middle of 2017) is supposed to be more energy saving (using I think 10 nanometer manufacturing process instead of 14 nanometer on kaby lake and sky lake).

Unless you are a developer, the performance improvement in the last 2-3 generation is neglegible.  In fact, I didn't find much improvement between this laptop vs my previous laptop which had a gen 2 i7 cpu (though that one has 4 cores).

Memory is DDR4-2133.  You need to make sure it's DDR4.  2133 is similar to clock speed.  As long as you get one at 2133 or above , you should be good.  I don't know what the max memory support is on this, but I think it's 16 is the max.  I went to HP's Envy site and try to do some customization and the max allowed is 16GB.    Perhaps you should open another topic and hopefully the HP support will help out.

Ok all. Here are my 1st results with the Evo 960.  Let me mention that for the windows install I used the USB Revovery image to install Windows directly to the blank drive after removing the HDD.  Allso I am on Bios 17 currently and have not updated to 21 yet.  They where abit disapointing but I may try with the new bios and/or a clean install of win 10.

I think images are moderated here, so they won't show up until they are approved. Just give it a little time.

Not sure if the images showed up yet but heres a the Seq Q32T1 Numbers:

1st test:

Read: 1818MB/s  Write 1522MB/s

2nd Test

Read: 1835MB/s  Write 1493MB/s

Still much beter than SATA speeds

Also, Besides being on Bios 17, I also have not done the windows update to 1607 Build.  Both of these could have an effect I imagine.  I Will Likely not be able to post again until Wednesday but I plan to make these updates. and test again.

The more I think about this the more I believe updating Windows to the latest build will effect these EVO 960 numbers posted above.  All of the drivers I currently have installed are the ones that are dated back in June.  I dont believe the PCI 3.0 x4 was fully supported at that point.  Does anyone know if updating Windows to build 1607 from auto update also installs the new HP drivers?  Or would I manually install the latest divers from the HP site?  Provided you have done the 1607 Windows update, this can be checked by going to device manager and looking at properties for any of the chipset drivers, for arguments sake lets say IDE ATA/ATAPI>properties>driver and provide the Driver Version #.  I know this is for the sata chipset but it will determine if we should update these drivers manually from HP site.

I would test myself but unfortunatly, I left my power cord at a hotel on a busness trip over the weekend and cannot do the update until I get a new one from Amazon on Wed.  Kinda want to install a clean version of Win 10 but I have a fear of small incompatabilities and frankly I am surprised and impressed with how well everything is working at the moment.  Also, I really like the Hamon audio settings espesially the two different sound sources feature and dont see that software on the HP site.  Small thing I know but pretty cool.

Manual download, unfortunately.  I did a clean install of windows 10 1607.  At first, I installed the June drivers.   This install was done before HP put made all the drivers available on line (there was another thread on this topic).

A week after I got the laptop, I noticed new drivers available on HP.  HP Assistant didn't detect the new drivers. Although touchpad, display, network were installed automatically via windows update.  After that, I reinstall windows 10 1607 again with latest drivers.

bro the speed is 4 times that of sata drive iam really impressed. I also think that u need to update bios and windows plus u need to download samsung magician to optimize the performance of 960 evo it can be contolled by software. After doing all this post the results iam assuming the speeds will improve because it is pcie3.0into 4lanes so best of luck.
