I think those numbers are crazy good. Congrats!

Hey folks,

I used the Crucial MX300 275 Gb M.2 SSD from here ($87.50):

I got the following results after enabling Momentum Cache using the updated Micron Software Executive which directly supports the Crucial SSD. Software found here:

Hi all,

Quick question for those who have opened up the machine and installed one of these drives.  How much space is there for an ssd?  I'm looking at several of the newer cards that are dual sided, as in they have dies on both sides of the circuit board.   For example:  http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mydigitalssd-bpx-nvme-ssd,4780.html

However, I've read warnings that not all laptops can accomodate dual sided PCBs.

Do you think that a dual sided SSD will fit in the aq105dx?

Thanks!

John

Update: I had to disable momentum cache because my computer kept becoming unresponsive.

And I think there would be enough space for a dual sided SSD. Or just go with one of the ones have reported on.

Just a Quick update.  After upgrading Windows 10 to 1607 and installing the new driver set (HP Assistant did actually pick these up and auto install. Thanks hchen42 for making me think to check that).  There has been virtually no change in the speed of the Evo 960.  I was hoping to break the 2000 mark but I do reallize that the speeds are quite good and am pleased especially since this card is quite inexpensive comparatively.

Moving on, are we sure that the HP active stylus is not supported?  This post seems to say otherwise https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Stylus-for-HP-ENVY-x360-m6-Con... .  Though I don't see it listed on supported devices on the product page.  Seems odd that they would support the last few gens of this laptop and leave it out this time around.  Odd but not unheard of.  If anyone has tried let us know.  If not I may opt to be a guinea pig.

**Edit: reviews on the product page confirm that this stylus will not work on our laptop.  Can't have it all I, guess.  So close to a perfect solution.

Sorry to jump back to SSDs, but one quick question for you Antithesis.

I was thinking about buying the 960 EVO but am worried about the longevity of the drive (3 year vs 5 year warranty with a lot of others).  Now that you have been using it for a while, can you check what the TBW is to date using Windows 10?  I've read that it can vary by use and operating system, and that for a general use system longevity shouldn't be a problem.  However, I've also read reports that some people see unusually high writes to the boot drive with Windows 10, which makes me nervous.

Thanks!

Hello John,

What test would I use to check the TBW rate?  I'd be happy to do so, but I really have only been using the dive since Sunday and have done quite a few updates and things of that nature.  Might throw the test off... right?

I believe Samsung Magician should provide that information somwhere.  That's a fair point though - it probably is a little too soon to get any meaningful numbers.  I just want to make sure its not already at like 5 TBW since the 250 gb only carries a warranty of 100 TBW.

One benefit of the EVO over other drives is that Samsung Magician is great software.  I don't know of a lot of other drives with that level of support.

Good call on Magician. I am at total Bytes writen 0.6TB.  Does seem like a lot but I have done a windows install, numerous tests, updates and large application installs (Adobe suite, Office ect).  I will monitor this number.  Thanks for the heads up on this!  It hadn't occured to me.  I dont store any files on SSD's as I move all my liberary folders to the HDD so my write is usually low .  (This is why I jumped on this laptop after seeing this thread.)

That's my plan too.  The SSD will be the boot drive and the existing HDD will be for long term storage (or maybe as a backup of the boot drive).  It probably won't be an issue and I'm not too concerned about reliability from a company like Samsung (exploding phones excepted), but thought I would ask!

Thanks for the help!
